A Perspective on How Watching Manga and Comedy Can Become Your Job
Hello, this is Zakky.
This time, I would like to talk about
“how reading manga and watching comedy can become your job.”
Since I learned this way of thinking, I have almost completely eliminated what you might call a wasted day from my life. So, if you are thinking, “I want to be like that too,” please continue reading. Let’s begin. I work in the housing industry, but for several years now, I have lost almost all interest in spending money on “things.” Yet, I work in a job that provides a “home,” which could be called the most expensive purchase in a person’s life.
I am currently struggling with this gap, or perhaps this conflict, in real-time.
Right now, my desire to spend money on “experiences” rather than things has become overwhelmingly stronger. So, honestly, I am incredibly envious when I see people who have traveled to dozens of countries around the world. I myself have many countries I want to visit before I die. That is why I started thinking, “What kind of work can I do while traveling?” and I have learned various ways to earn money from anywhere as long as I have an internet connection. Among them, the work that I felt suited me best was writing. While studying various things, what left an impression on me was story writing, which I learned at a writing seminar.
Rather than writing “do this” directly, people are more likely to take action if they realize it through a story.
For example, it is like saying that it is more effective to have a part-timer read “The Ant and the Grasshopper” than to just tell them to “work.”
(Though “The Ant and the Grasshopper” might be a bit too blunt and could lead to a fight...)
At the time, my understanding was honestly quite shallow, just a “I see” kind of level.
But now that I have accumulated a fair amount of study and experience, I understand it clearly. Daily life is full of material for story writing. However, it is not the case that you should turn just anything into a story. To use stories effectively, there is one important thing. That is the “purpose.” For example, for a comedian, the purpose is “to make people laugh.” Episode talks are exactly using stories effectively. They are always keeping their antennas up, thinking, “Is there anything interesting?” and when something happens, they think, “How should I structure this to lead to laughter?” and then perform it in front of people.
“Suberanai Hanashi” (Stories That Never Fail) is truly educational.
Personally, I feel that Chihara Junior’s structure is particularly amazing. ...I have veered a bit too much into comedy talk, so let me get back on track. Unlike comedians, our purpose is simple: “To have someone buy something.” For example, suppose your purpose is to sell a paid note titled “How to get your child to sit at their desk on their own” for moms who have children who struggle with studying.
If you go about your daily life with this purpose in mind, something incredible happens.
Even when you are reading manga or watching a comedy show, scenes where you think, “Oh, I can use this,” will jump out at you on their own. It is true! For example, there is a sports manga called “Diamond no Kouzai” (The Merits and Demerits of a Diamond). Suppose you are reading it and come across a scene where the protagonist intentionally makes a mistake and loses the moment they are expected to perform by those around them.
“If I get any better, I won’t be able to run away anymore.” When such inner thoughts were depicted, it clicked! “Oh, maybe that child who doesn’t study isn’t just being lazy, but is fighting against the fear of expectations?” Then, that realization can become an article just like that.
“The story of how the expectation that you can do it if you try stops children from studying”
A simple impression of a manga turns into content that saves the hearts of worried parents. This is something that AI definitely cannot write, right? Because the parts where you feel, “This seems like it would hit home for that person,” connected to your own life experiences, emotions, and background, are things only you can understand.
Naturally, your writing will have originality and interest.
There is only one important tip. “Who do I want to buy what?” Keep this in mind while going about your daily life. It is a psychological effect called the color-bath effect, where information related to what you are conscious of naturally jumps into your eyes. It is an ability that every human being possesses, so you do not need any special talent.
When this way of thinking clicks, life truly becomes fun.
Even when I am reading manga, I have absolutely no guilt. I can genuinely think, “This is part of the job,” and in fact, it has become so. First, today, just one thing is fine, so try looking at your daily life while thinking, “If I look at this from the perspective of who I am selling to, what happens?”
Something will surely change!
