How about a monthly art date with yourself? [February]
Influenced by two friends in my writing group, I've decided to start setting aside one day a month this year to experience art and culture, such as visiting museums or attending rakugo performances.
After all, if you book a date with yourself,
do your research, and dress up a little to enjoy some art,
you feel like a sophisticated woman, don't you? Mood is important.
(To avoid being identified, I can't do this every time, but
I'd like to report on it occasionally.)
I love the Museum of Kyoto, and for Nara, I'm thinking
the Shosoin Exhibition first...
I really love the articles written by the two seniors in my writing group.
For this Osaka excursion, I chose this place.
The Nakanoshima Museum of Art is located in the heart of Osaka city
and has an impressive modern building.
It opened in 2022 and is easily accessible from the city center.
It seems to be a popular date spot, too.
Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797–1861), an ukiyo-e artist from the end of the Edo period, created numerous innovative works that rewrote the history of ukiyo-e and enjoys high popularity both in Japan and abroad. His eccentric ideas, design sense that resonates with the modern day, and humor have captivated many people beyond the boundaries of ukiyo-e and his era. This exhibition is the definitive Kuniyoshi exhibition, a large-scale event showcasing approximately 400 items, including a wide range of ukiyo-e prints such as warrior pictures and caricatures, as well as precious original paintings.

✍️ Photography is permitted for all these paintings.
I enjoyed how they looked by slowly moving closer and then stepping back.
Above all, the use of color, the power, and the richness of expression.
I was thrilled to see how goldfish, cats, and even fish
could be brought to life in this way.
The colors, too, are so vivid
they look like they might start moving at any moment.
When you're alone, you don't have to worry about anyone else
and can engage with the art at your own pace.
I bought a cat as a souvenir.

I actually want to go around with my children too, but
they don't really want to come along.
But I feel relieved that I've finally raised my children
to an age where I can go around by myself.
Where should I go next month?
Thank you for joining me again today.
