Reinforcing a “distracted brain” with an AI recorder. Buying a smartwatch
I have ADHD-like traits—inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. I have these three quite strongly, so I can't maintain focus during long meetings. Even when I intend to listen carefully, my memory becomes “patchy,” and I often find later that I've missed the most important parts. That's why I wrote last time about how I was thinking of buying a wearable AI voice recorder to review meetings. And I'm usually quick when it comes to things like this. As soon as I think of something, I jump on it. I consider this another ADHD-like trait. This time, I asked a friend who uses the wearable AI voice recorder Plaud NotePin about their actual experience with it.

Things I thought were good after asking
First, the performance was quite attractive.
It is reliable enough for recording meetings and conversations and summarizing the content
If you link it with a smartphone app, it sends the recorded data to the cloud and summarizes it right there
The transcription accuracy is also high, giving it a “perfectly usable for work” feel
Conversely, the parts that bothered me
However, the more I imagined how to use it, the more concerns came up.
I have resistance to the style of hanging it from my neck like a pendant or wearing it on my arm
There is a limit of “300 hours per month free” for transcription recording
Honestly, I don't know if this “300 hours per month” is plenty for my usage or if it's actually cutting it close. But the moment I knew it wasn't infinite, I felt a little hesitant.
So, the conclusion
Overall, I think the Plaud NotePin is a “capable device.” But when it comes to whether it would naturally blend into my life, I felt it was a bit different. So, here is my conclusion.
“Let's look for a different AI voice recorder.”
From here, my “journey to find an AI voice recorder” began. What I am looking for is not a gadget to use on special days. It is for everyday use. I want a form factor that I can use without effort as an extension of my daily meetings and casual chats. Thinking about it that way, what I arrive at is this.A wristwatch. A smartwatch.
But, which smartwatch, after all?
When you think of smartwatches, you think of the Apple Watch. If you are an athlete, you think of Garmin. However, the mid-range price for both is over 50,000 yen. I was wondering, “Aren't there any smartwatches at a more realistic price?” and when I looked it up, a candidate came up.Amazfit T-Rex 3.

Released in 2025, it's not too new and not too old. Actually, it's easier to research when about a year has passed since its release because the review articles are all out. In that sense, it's just right. The price is also under 40,000 yen. I won't say it's cheap. But I also feel that if I reach for a cheaper model than this, I won't be able to use it for a long time.
…And up to this point, I was being rational.
And then I open Mercari.
I checked Mercari just to see, and an Amazfit T-Rex 3 was listed for 22,000 yen. So, this is what happens to me. For now—click.

…Huh?
Didn't you say, 'I'm going to be careful this year'?
Weren't you supposed to think things through properly before buying, instead of jumping on every idea that pops into your head?
Yeah. I guess I'm still being myself today.
