We can overwrite our lives at any time. Even just writing it in a notebook is fine.
“It’s often said in the world of writers that ‘the one who survives until the end is the one who can overwrite the world’…”
These words were spoken by Ryo Asai, who won the Japan Booksellers' Award for "In the Megachurch," during an interview with Kaho Miyake.
They came up in the context of why Ryo Asai walks over 10,000 steps every day, and the idea that only those who were healthy at the end can write certain things.
Since I am someone who is careful about my own health, I empathized with “Health is super important lol” but more than that, the phrase “can overwrite the world” really struck a chord with me.
Actually, a few days before I learned of this phrase, I held a workshop themed around “writing.”
I realized then that I had been talking about something similar to Ryo Asai’s words, though with a slightly different nuance.

1. How I was approached and the workshop
Because I mainly post about “writing,” “notebooks,” and “journaling” on note and X, I was approached by the educational community “Yume Tsumugu Gakko” (Dream-Weaving School).
Whenever I receive such invitations, I always think:
“Writing” is wonderful. I’m actually reaching someone with my words.
The workshop was titled “Creating a ‘Wakuwaku (Excitement) List’ with Parent and Child,” where a wakuwaku list is essentially a “wish list” or a “things to do list.”
However, it wasn’t just a simple wish list; I included a few tricks.
“Parent-child dialogue” was my personal hidden theme.
Why?
Because even in a 30-minute workshop, you realize there are things parents and children don't know about each other.
Sometimes, you find that parents and children are thinking about the same things in unexpected ways.
Even for parents and children who see each other every day, there is quite a lot they haven't noticed.
I have one request for you here.
I want you to imagine the expressions on their faces when the parent and child start sharing what they’ve written.
※ It doesn’t matter if you are in the position of the parent or the child.
The moment we learned things we didn't know about each other.
As a result, the workshop was a huge success!
I'm grateful... truly grateful...
And finally, during the Q&A session, the word "overwrite"transformed the atmosphere into a moving scene.
Yes, it was the words of Ryo Asai that appeared at the beginning,"You can overwrite the world.".
2. "Writing" is also about venting your inner self
As someone who journals every day, I know.
"Writing" is also about venting your inner self,so I also know that sometimes memories you've tucked away in the past can come bubbling up.

We tend to want to put a lid on unpleasant things, but it's also true that journaling can help release your heart. That's why journaling is sometimes described like this.
Emotional drainage.
Ventilation for the heart.
A deep breath for the soul.
Your notebook or journal catches your heart.
And had you noticed?
The kanji for "to vent" (haku) is written as "releasing pluses and minuses from the mouth."
That is why it is important to honestly write down both the good things and the not-so-good things.
To return to the topic, during the workshop, I asked for"three promises."
① There is no right or wrong!
② It's okay to write down exactly what you think!
③ You can write anything! But don't write lies!
The person who asked a question during the Q&A session shared this with us.
"A long time ago, I wrote down things I wanted to do and my goals in my notebook. But I couldn't achieve them, and I was called a liar..."
I get it! I totally get it!
There are people who say things like that, aren't there...
I've experienced it many times myself.
Because of that, there were times when I retreated into my shell and felt lonely.
I realized immediately that they had been hurt.
But, I was
so happy it brought me to tears.
Because in a workshop of only about 30 minutes, they shared feelings that might have been kept under a lid deep, deep inside their heart.
3. Life can be overwritten and saved
That is precisely why I also faced them seriously and answered.
What you wrote at that time is not a lie, is it?
Even if your heart or feelings have changed, the feelings you had at that time are not a lie, are they?
So, it is okay.
I have had the same experience too.
But, isn't that fine? Because it is not a lie.
The facts do not change, but you are allowed to change your interpretation.
That is why we can "overwrite and save our lives."
When I put it into words again like this, I realized that these were words that came out of me precisely because that person had shared with me.
Overwritingis, I think, our privilege.
Unpleasant things can be overwritten with fun things.
Even unpleasant facts will eventually become a funny story.
So, it is okay!
You are allowed to overwrite and save your life "at any time."
When I conveyed those words, tears were spilling from the eyes of the person who asked the question.
It must have been the moment when something that was stuck in their heart was removed.
I think it was a moment where hearts resonated with each other, or perhaps where hearts drew close to one another.
Today, it ended up being abstract content rather than about notebooks, but I really wanted to write it down, so I made it into an article.
I have nothing but gratitude for the participant who opened the door to their heart through "writing."
Let me say it again at the end.
The one who survives until the end can overwrite the world, but we can overwrite and save our lives at any time.
This is not a writer's world, so“at any time”you are free to overwrite it.
Even if you are going through something painful right now or things aren't going well, it will surely be okay. Because something fun is definitely waiting for you!
You can take action in a direction that fulfills yourself!
When you let it all out and the negative is gone, it becomes the character for 'to come true'.
As I write this, I am telling it to myself right now.
I am also enjoying reading all of your notes!
They are always helpful, thank you!
If you felt something from this note, I would be happy if you could give it a like or follow me!
