A 5-goal home victory, but defensive issues remain
Kataller Toyama, who won against FC Imabari in a penalty shootout at home in the previous round, reached the end of the first half of the Centennial Concept League regional round. This round, they welcomed Nara Club to their home stadium.
The match got moving early. In the 7th minute of the first half, Seishiro Tsuboi connected with a diving header from a cross sent in from behind by Matsuoka on the right flank, scoring a brilliant goal.Tsuboi's goal opened the floodgates for Toyama's goal rush.
Just 10 minutes in, Tsuboi, who had scored the goal, spread the ball wide to the right, connecting with Matsuoka and Nishiya, before Ayumu Kameda finally met it in front of the goal to add another.Kameda scored his first goal in 7 matches.
Two minutes later, Kameda struck again from a cross by Fuseya on the left! Waiting in open space, Kameda volleyed it home, giving Kataller a 3-goal lead early on.
It seemed like it would be an easy game, but they faced a counterattack from Nara. In the 18th minute of the first half, a vertical pass was played from the Nara defensive line, and a final pass was sent from Morita to Shota Tamura. Tamura finished it brilliantly, pulling one back.After that, they struggled against Nara's skillful passing and finished the first half without creating any more chances.
Kataller wanted to pull away in the second half, but just 2 minutes after the start, a cross from Arata Yoshida, who played for Toyama until last season, was headed in by Tomizu, narrowing the 3-goal lead to just one.
The one who shook off the bad mood was Shinpei Nishiya, who made his first start of the season. In the 10th minute of the second half, after winning a free kick deep on the left side, Nishiya shot the loose ball! Although Nishiya's shot hit the opposing defender twice and bounced back, his third attempt brilliantly pierced the bottom left corner of the goal.
With a 2-goal lead, Kataller launched a counterattack from an opponent's mistake in second-half stoppage time, and Kim Tae-won, who carried the ball with a dribble, sent a final pass to Yoshihira. Yoshihira calmly found the net to seal the match.
Although Kataller won comfortably with 5 goals, it was by no means an easy match. There were many moments where Nara held the initiative outside of the goal-scoring plays, and the 2 goals conceded left issues in defense.
