[Kobe Electric Railway] October 2022 Shintetsu Train Festival Part 3: “Former Car De 101 After Restoration”

I would like to continue writing about the “Shintetsu Train Festival 2022” held on 2022/10/16,
following up from the previous post.

This is the vehicle that was parked behind the former 1101 car, which has become a mobile warehouse.

De 101 series, former car De 101.

Car 101, which debuted in 1929, the year after the line opened, was in service until 1971,
and even after retirement, it was used as a shunting vehicle at the Suzurandai Depot.

However, on 2016/2/24, the successor TRD-025-U-1067 battery-powered shunting vehicle was completed.
With this, the former De 101 car finished its role as a shunting vehicle.

This is the appearance of the former De 101 car near its retirement, back on 2015/10/4.

As you can see, it had aged significantly,
so it was decided that it would be scrapped and dismantled after the introduction of the battery-powered shunting vehicle.

However, as it is a valuable vehicle from the “Shin-Yu Electric Railway” era,
calls for its preservation came from both inside and outside the company, and the vehicle was spared from being scrapped for the time being.

In 2019, a restoration and repair project was launched by railway fan volunteers,
and a crowdfunding campaign was held from 2019/9/27 to 11/28.

Against a target of 1.5 million yen, approximately 3.7 million yen in donations was collected over about two months,
and the restoration and repair work was carried out from 2021/2/10 to 3/5.

Through this restoration and repair work,
it was restored to its appearance as of March 1983, when a large-scale renovation project was carried out.

Although some of the passenger doors and side windows are blocked off,
this was due to the large-scale renovation work in 1983.

It is said that this repair work included exterior panel repairs, full repainting, underframe underside repairs, roof equipment painting,
full roof lawn repairs, and the manufacturing of one new ventilator.

A project unique to the inspection depot!
We were able to crawl under the floor.

Although the former De 101 car was scheduled to be scrapped and dismantled at the end of March 2016,
it was beautifully revived to its appearance around 1983 through repair and restoration work in March 2021.

While dynamic preservation was not possible due to the deterioration of the electrical and braking systems,
I was glad to be able to see it in such a beautiful state.
