If childcare and work are both 60 points, that's 120 points total: A story about how changing my perspective made things easier
I felt like my work, housework, and childcare were all half-baked.
The floors I used to keep clean every day sometimes go days without being touched.
I went from being a full-time employee to a part-timer, and I felt like I wasn't giving it my all.
Am I just inefficient?
The things I want to do aren't progressing either.
Days go by where I can't read books, watch movies, or exercise.
I felt like I wasn't doing anything for my own healing or my future, and I let out a sigh.
The first realization I got from my parent
"I'm only at 60 points right now."
When I muttered that, my parent said this:
"Your environment is different from before, so you're being too hard on yourself. You didn't have children before, and your job was different, right? If you keep using a point-deduction system, you're only going to make yourself miserable."
Hearing those words, I was struck.
I had been counting only the things I "couldn't do" and kept deducting points from myself.
My perspective changed thanks to a friend's words
A few days later, I posted on X, "My childcare and work are both 60 points." Then, someone I interact with gave me these words:
"If childcare and work are both 60 points, that's 120 points total, isn't it?"
That's true, I thought, and a smile broke out.
I had thought both were half-baked, but if you add them together, isn't that enough?
If I had kept thinking with a point-deduction system, I never would have realized this fact.
Seeing what I can do with an additive system
Since then, I've stopped comparing myself to my past self and adopted a method of adding points starting from zero.
I played seriously with my child, I managed to read for 10 minutes.
The time and quality aren't what they used to be, but counting the fact that I "did it" made my heart feel much lighter.
When your environment changes, it's okay to change how you evaluate yourself
Feeling like you aren't doing enough might just be because your environment has changed from before.
When that happens, why not try not to be too hard on yourself and look at what you have accomplished using an additive system?
Thank you for reading this far.
I hope your day is a wonderful one.
