Summer vegetables are honest

Summer vegetables are honest.

The more care you put into them, the more delicious they become.
But even if you don't put in much effort, they are still reasonably delicious.

That is the part of summer vegetables that I think I like.

First, I blanched the cherry tomatoes to peel them.
When you boil water and quickly dip the tomatoes in it, the skins slip right off.

I somehow like that moment.
It feels like the tomatoes are saying, "Here you go."
It might just be my imagination.

I added shiso leaves to the peeled tomatoes and dressed them with ponzu and olive oil.
Finally, I sprinkled some ground sesame seeds over them, and they were done.

How simple, I thought.
Cooking is a wonderful thing because just this much makes a proper dish.

Cucumbers were cut using disposable chopsticks.

If you place disposable chopsticks on both sides of the cucumber and make cuts with a knife, you can slice it thinly without cutting all the way through.
This seems to be called accordion slicing.

When I tried it, it was quite fun.
It was a little amusing to see the cucumber becoming accordion-like.

I seasoned it with simple vinegar and sesame oil, and let it sit for about half a day.
The key is to top it with ginger.

I really like the fact that you can just leave it there.
The refrigerator takes care of making it delicious on its own.
I think the refrigerator is a truly great invention.

When I served it at the table, my family was happy.
Pickled cucumbers in particular is a dish I am asked to make every summer.

I thought it was a nice thing to have such a dish in the house.

Summer vegetables are honest.
And my family is honest, too.
When something is delicious, they honestly say, "It's delicious."
I think that is just fine.
