There are still some old-fashioned, stubborn people among educators who are poorly informed. The lie of Amala and Kamala, the children raised by wolves.

This is a story from around the year 2000. When I was in charge of upper-grade students at my fourth school, a former local teacher came all the way to the school and spread an outrageous lie to the children, saying, 'Children raised by wolves end up like wolves.'

Back in the late 1980s, when I was an undergraduate, I had already read books by anthropologists like Hideo Obara and Fumio Koizumi. Having also consulted foreign literature, I knew that those authors had flatly refuted the lies of Reverend Singh, who had brought up the wolf girls Amala and Kamala, based on scientific evidence. So, I was shocked and thought, 'Wait, are you talking about the wolf girls Amala and Kamala?'

It is now a settled theory that Reverend Singh made up the story because he wanted to emphasize, from his position as a clergyman, that 'if humans do not receive proper human-like education, they cannot become decent human beings.' This logic is not entirely a lie, but...

The fabricated story based on that premise was problematic. First of all, multiple researchers searched for the village where the wolf girls Amala and Kamala were supposed to have been, but they could not find it anywhere.

Secondly, it became clear that the two girls in the photos he took, crawling on all fours in the nude, were actually children with autism and intellectual disabilities based on their behavioral patterns.

Thirdly, the biggest lie is that it is impossible for wolves to raise a human baby. Wolf milk has different components and concentration than human milk, and human babies cannot tolerate it.

Furthermore, wolf cubs become almost full-grown adults in just three to six months, whereas human babies can barely crawl until at least six months have passed.

There is no way wolves could raise a human baby that cannot move on its own. Even if they carried it in their mouths to move it, unlike wolf cubs, human babies are too heavy. In other words, the growth rate of a human baby and that of a wolf cub are clearly completely different.

Furthermore, no matter how hard a human tries, they will never gain the nocturnal vision of a wolf. Since wolves are nocturnal and active at night, and humans have eyes adapted to the daytime, it is impossible for humans to act together with wolves.

Also, no matter how much a human crawls around, they could never reach the speed to run alongside wolf cubs or adult wolves for any length of time.

Because of these facts, the story is now completely debunked. Yet, even in the year 2000, this poorly informed former teacher was proudly telling this lie in front of children, so I had to refute it afterward. It is wrong to teach lies to children. I absolutely could not forgive it.

It 'might' be true that if one is not raised by decent parents or in a proper environment, one could become mentally fragile or develop developmental disorders. Even so, a human child is still a human child. It cannot be said that such things will necessarily happen.

I believe Reverend Singh made up the story because he wanted to emphasize that people do not become human unless they receive human-like education.

However, 80% of families in Japan today are dysfunctional. In reality, not all families are like the Sazae-san family. Because of that, I cannot allow the story of 'children raised by wolves' to circulate in the world, as there must not be people who make the short-sighted connection that 'that is why I have become messed up'.
