SongBook, Vol. 4 - Roses: Cecile Corbel Impressions
1. Les Capitaines
It is interesting how the rhythm changes between the A-melody, B-melody, and the chorus.
It brings to mind the image of soap bubbles🫧.
2. Jenovefa
After looking up the music video and the lyrics, it seems to be quite a sad song.
Thinking about that, the melody line also feels quite sorrowful.
The story seems to be that a king's beloved daughter (Jenovefa) fell in love with a young man in the clergy, but the young man said he couldn't accept a ring from Jenovefa because, as he put it, "I belong to God." Upon hearing this, Jenovefa collapsed and begged him, "If you do not forsake your vows to God and stay with me, I will die." However, it seems he did not respond, and later, Jenovefa saw him coming alone to her grave and weeping. That is the story, it seems.
It is too heartbreaking.
Regarding the final "Jenovefa..." part, personally, when I listen to it, I get an image of feathers dancing in a skylight.
3. Francesco
It has an image of the night, stars, and the Milky Way.

4. Garden District
As in the music video, it has a winter image.
Like something fading into the cold, white winter sky.
The intro was different between the music video and the album track.
The music video version has an added beginning and is longer.
I like this intro too; it's cool😊
5. Prayer
Just as the title suggests, it sounds like someone is earnestly offering prayers in a sacred church😊
6. Folia
When I let the album play through, I didn't realize that the previous song and this one were different😅
That is because part of the melody is the same as "Prayer".
The instrumental is also deeply moving.
7. Hija Mia
I heard that this song is about a mother's feelings of grief as she thinks of her daughter who threw herself into the sea after her love went unrequited. (I apologize if I am mistaken.)
It gives the image of the sea washing ashore and receding.
Considering the background of the song, the chorus sounds like a mother calling out her daughter's name in lament.
Also, on a very personal note, when I started listening to this song frequently, it was before the release of the "Kasouken no Onna" movie, and perhaps because I was looking at that poster (the blue one), it overlaps with that image somewhere, haha.
8. Le Long De L'eau
The part that goes something like "melo, me~lody~♫" is catchy, haha.
I like the rhythm.
9. A Suivre
It brings to mind the yellow and red of autumn leaves. It feels like autumn.
It gives the image of being quite bundled up against the cold.
10. The Riddle
It brought to mind an image of a boy and a sage talking in a green square.
I kind of like it. It draws me in from the intro.
There was a time when I was obsessed with listening to this song while riding the Shinkansen.
I remember crying because the sky and clouds visible from the window were so moving.
(Though, maybe I was just emotionally unstable back then, too.)
11. La Ballade De Rose
The interludes in the middle and towards the end are so beautiful.
I also like that it feels a little bit sad.
12. Eirin
It feels like this is the definition of Celtic style, and I love it.
The way the melody changes throughout is charming.
Summary
I thought this was an album with many songs that feel quite mature.
Thank you very much.
