I am worth more than an apple

My eldest son is in great form.
He has been talking non-stop right next to me.

He shares the contents of the book he is reading with me,
talks about the flashes of insight he gets while solving problems,
in short, he is constantly
saying, "Hey, Mom!"
over and over.

My eldest son speaks very fast,
but I still try to interject
with things like, "Oh, really? Wow."
every now and then.

My eldest son doesn't seem to wait for my responses,
and I'm not even sure if he's listening.

Since he's been talking for so long, I've started to get tired,
but since he shows no signs of stopping,
I interrupted him and said, "Hey, Mom, don't you think you don't need to say that?"

Then, without missing a beat,
"Fine, I'll just talk to the apple then,"
he said, and started talking to the apple sitting next to him.

Hey!!
Am I just an apple to you?
I couldn't help but retort.

My eldest son continued talking to the apple without a care.

However, after a while, he said,
"Actually, it has to be Mom.
I guess I want a reaction."

I was relieved that I was more than an apple.

It seems I am worth more than an apple.
