Discover Your Values with Engagement Cards!
Hello everyone.
The whole country is being hit by storms and strong winds, isn't it?
We are having quite strong winds here in Hokkaido today too, but I wonder if this is the first sign of spring?
If so, it feels like spring is just around the corner, and despite the strong winds, I can't help but feel excited♪
Now, are you familiar with engagement cards?

No two cards are the same!
Dozens of cards, each with a different value written on it.
I bought them to use for in-house training.
(Since several new graduates will be joining us in the spring, I thought it was the perfect timing☆)
Before using them in training, I asked a part-time staff member to try them out with me first.
First, we deal 7 cards to each person.
Then, you discard cards that don't align with your values and draw new ones. (Or pick up cards that someone else has discarded.)
By repeating this process, the 7 cards you are left with at the end represent the values you currently hold most dear.
By the way, my top 7 looked something like this.

The top three are the values I hold particularly dear.
The hardest part of all wasnot choosing, but letting goof the cards.
There were many other cards with values I hold dear, and I had to let them go with a heavy heart, thinking, 'Do I really have to discard this?' or I would discard one only to pick it back up again.
By repeating this process, I was able to dig upthe values I truly want to cherish deep inside myself, which was very helpful in understanding who I am today.
What was interesting here was that there were several cards where I thought,'If I were a few years younger, I would have kept this one.'
In my case, those were 'challenge, growth, progress, and adventure.'
If anything, all of those are basically cards that look at'myself'.
Now, driven byambition (I'm going to change the status quo of education in the world!), I value human connections and diversity, and I support those who need it.
For that, I need innovative ideas that have never existed before. (And, of course, the resolve.)
And, I never want to forget to have 'room to breathe' and 'playfulness'.
Laughter is the ultimate tool; it not only softens the heart and creates a fun atmosphere, but it also strengthens the bonds between companions.
Primates, including gorillas, have deepened their bonds by grooming each other within their groups, but for humans, such physical contact outside of family is difficult, isn't it?
The substitute for that is laughter.
In our home, it sounds like something out of a comic book, but once a week someone ends up spitting out their milk. (Mostly my eldest son.)
Our daily conversations are witty and fun, and when that happens, the atmosphere in the house is absolutely wonderful.
I've digressed a bit, but through these engagement cards, I was able to gain clarity on who I am right now.
I think I'll try doing these cards with my eldest son during our homeschooling session next time!
Why don't you all try adopting them in your own homes or workplaces as well?
Thank you once again for reading until the end.
