I was shocked by a compassionate nurse
Being hospitalized made me realize the importance of compassion.
Thank you for your support again today!
I am Yuji Imai, an invention designer who creates new options!
The other day, my sore throat and fever worsened, and I ended up being hospitalized, but thanks to the doctors, nurses, and all the staff, I was able to be discharged safely earlier than planned.
I received wonderful care from everyone, but there was one thing in particular that moved me.
In the room where I was hospitalized, the patient next to me had a nurse in charge.
Her work was truly exceptional.
(Since it was behind a curtain, I could only hear her voice and didn't know her name.)
What was so wonderful about it?
Her way of speaking to the patient was just too wonderful!
・Gently
・Clearly
・Slowly
She would speak to them, and
if there was still no response,
even slower. Lowering the tone of her voice and trying again,
and if there was still no response,
in a slightly louder voice. Lowering the tone of her voice even further.
She would say it. (Her tone never became harsh or rushed.)
There were many more ways she adjusted how she spoke,
・In a polite tone.
・With a bright voice quality
・Clearly until the end of the sentence, and with a bright ending.
Whether she was always conscious of this or if it came naturally to her,
she spoke like that every single time.
The way she responded to the other person during rehabilitation exercises
was also wonderful.
・First, accept and acknowledge what the other person is saying.
・Listen to them as if you are enjoying the conversation
・But, convey what needs to be conveyed.
I couldn't see her face, but I felt that she was likely conducting the rehabilitation carefully as well.
She was thinking deeply about 'what the other person wants'.
During rehabilitation, for walking training,
even when the patient said
'I won't go'
Nurse:
"You won't be able to be discharged unless we know how much you can walk."
Patient: "Alright! Let's go!"
(I remember well that during rehab, the patient mentioned in casual conversation, "I have things I must do, so I need to be discharged quickly.")
Even when walking during rehab,
they were having a conversation while laughing happily.
Just listening to their conversation made me feel brighter.
That nurse was also working the night shift that same night.
Her response to other patients' nurse calls was also
gently, "How can I help you?"
Even though she had to do many different things in the middle of the night,
seeing the patient looking apologetic,
"Nurses are here to help, so please don't hesitate to call us."
she said very kindly.
I was just so moved...
I wondered if I could do something like that myself.
Even when I'm in a good mood, feeling healthy, and at my best,
I'm not sure if I could provide such wonderful service.
To be able to do that from the daytime through the night,
beyond just being a professional or "doing a job,"
I was impressed by her "humanity."
This is what it means to treat others with compassion.
This is what thoughtfulness is all about.
Just while I was hospitalized, I had been thinking about the personality of the "Little Red Riding Hood Robot" I drew before,
and how to converse with elderly people
in a way that makes them feel comfortable.
So I felt like I was able to experience one form of that ideal.
Wonderful people brighten the world just by existing, don't they?

I will also learn from this experience. I will aim to be a better person!
Conclusion: Kindness and compassion brighten the world!
And there are people who practice that every day!
I take my hat off to her.
⭐️⭐️Thank you for reading again today!⭐️⭐️
⭐️⭐️⭐️I would be happy if you could like or comment!⭐️⭐️⭐️

P.S. Every week, there are times I think I might not be able to write, but because I had such a wonderful experience, it gave me the strength to write and draw.
I try to improve my drawings as much as possible every week. This time, I tried to experiment with how to make two characters look at each other while talking.
