What exactly is an 'invention'?
"I want to strike it rich with an invention!"Have you ever
thought that?
"Invention"If you understand what it is, you might be one step closer!?
Thank you again today!
Creating new options! I'm Yuji Imai, an invention designer!
Becoming a millionaire with invention royalties!
That's a dream, isn't it?
There are people who have done it in the past, so it really is an
Invention Dream!
To do that, first of all, it's good to know what an 'invention' is,
right?
Also, I will explain a little about "inventions"becoming rights through
"patents."
So, what is an 'invention'?
First, I will give you the general conclusion,
and then, from my perspective as someone whose job is actually inventing,
I will provide an easy-to-understand? explanation.
General Conclusion
What is the definition of an invention at the Japan Patent Office?
Patent Act Article 2, Paragraph 1: In this Act, "invention" means
the highly advanced creation of technical ideas
utilizing the laws of nature.
I have intentionally used three line breaks.
In other words,
1. It conforms to the laws of nature
2. It is a new technology
3. It is highly advanced
Only when these three conditions are met is it
legallyan "invention."
1. It conforms to the laws of nature
This means,
for example, things you learn in school science like the "principle of leverage" or "laws of inertia,"
up to advanced things like gravity, optics, electrical laws, thermodynamics, etc.,
that is what it refers to.
2. It is a new technology
This is made up of two elements:"being a technology"and "being new."In other words,
even if you discovered something new, if it is not a "technology," it is not an "invention" but a "discovery."
And
even if it is a technology, if it has existed before, it is not an "invention" but "prior art."
3. It is highly advanced
For example, if you say, "I used the power of electricity to create a new technology!"
since it satisfies conditions 1 and 2, it might seem like an invention at first glance,
but if it is almost the same as existing technology and only improves performance, it is an "improvement."
That is what it becomes. However, this judgment is difficult.
"Alright! I've met these three conditions!"
If that's the case, it becomes an 'invention'.
Once you have successfully created an 'invention', you might think,
"I want to make this useful for society!"
.
However, since I assume it took time and money to create, you might also think it would be nice to sell the current invention to make some money, so you can develop the next invention.
There are several ways to turn an invention into money, but this time, I will also explain a little about
'patents'
, which many people probably think about.
(A discussion about inventions and money is planned for a separate article.)
What is an 'invention' that can be patented?
The criteria for an invention to be granted a patent are even stricter.
If you want to make it a 'patent', you also need things like:
・It can be used in industry (industrially applicable) ・It is more advanced than others globally
.
To put it very simply,
・It's a world-first, ・It has world-class performance, ・It's a very useful mechanism
If you create that,
that is what we call an 'invention'. And if you pay the government money,
if you pay the government money
special permission = 'patent' they might
certify it!?
That is what it means.
(There is a government examination!)
(I didn't include the term 'laws of nature' above, but I omitted it because basically you can't create such things without using the laws of nature.)
Planned article [Why do patents require examination and money?]
Conclusion
・It's a world-first, ・It has world-class performance, ・It's a very useful mechanism If you create this, it's an 'invention'!
And, if you pay the government and pass the examination, it might be certified as a 'patent'
That is what it means.

World-first! World-class! Very useful!
I want to keep creating things like that and make the world a better place!
⭐️⭐️Thank you for reading today as well!!⭐️⭐️
⭐️⭐️Comments, requests, and questions are welcome!⭐️⭐️

P.S.
This time, the illustration is about 'invention'.
I wanted to make it a picture with an invention-like theme, but
I've used light bulbs before, and I don't really do chemistry-related things, so
I tried drawing an analog machine that gives off a 'I'm about to activate something amazing!' vibe
imagining a developer who is full of confidence.
