From Zero Self-Esteem and Mental Health Struggles to Fortune Teller | You Can Create the Future You Desire
"Creating the future"
I have been working with this as my motto, and before I knew it, I had started fortune telling and am now in my 11th year (entering my 12th this autumn).
Having money, social status, etc., I think those things are important, but above all,
being able to do what you love, having mental freedom, and having the room to "choose" for yourself.
I believe that without being in that state, one cannot truly be happy.
That is precisely why I have my own core and am working as a fortune teller with the desire to
"increase the number of people who can carve out their own lives by their own will."
.
Last year, I quit my job as a company employee to make fortune telling my full-time profession, and my life has truly changed drastically compared to the past.
Last month, I took a spontaneous trip to Thailand ✈️

Also, at the beginning of this month, I went on a pilgrimage tour to famous shrines with students from my palmistry school ⛩️

By making fortune telling my job, I have become able to do what I want to do every day, happily.
Aiming not to "predict the future," but to "create the future"
What I value most in my fortune telling work is
【conducting readings that create the future】
.
When people hear "fortune telling," they often have the impression that it is something that predicts the current situation or future, saying things like,
"You have such and such a personality"
or "Such and such an event will happen in so many years."
However, I believe it is more than just that.
What is important is to grasp your own nature and current situation, and with the knowledge that
"if things continue as they are, this is a possibility,"
being able to re-choose the future you desire by your own will.
Fortune telling is not about predicting the future. It is a means to create the future. That is how I have been doing it.
Here, I will briefly talk about my background so far,
I started learning fortune telling while I was a student at Keio University, and this November will mark my 12th year in the field.
・Over 5,000 people read in total
・Approximately 100 students in the palmistry course (since June 2024)
・Approximately 30 students in the birth date fortune telling course (since June 2026)
In addition to that, I have spent over 3 million yen learning quite indiscriminately, from tarot, Sanmeigaku, Qigong, and subconscious reprogramming, to slightly mysterious things like past-life therapy, guardian spirit readings, and clairvoyance, as well as logical things like NLP coaching.

***
Now that I've quit my corporate job and work as a full-time fortune teller,
I've almost stopped giving up on things because of money,
and because I've become able to enjoy every day,
I've been hearing things like this quite often lately.
"You must have always had things go well for you, Teacher."
"You seem like a lady from a wealthy family, I'm so jealous."
Honestly, I'm super happy to hear that 🥹✨️✨️
I really am happy!
However...
Before I got here,
things were completely different...
.
.
.
I was originally incredibly mentally unstable,
hung up on my ex-boyfriend,
and stayed depressed for three whole years (way too long lol).
Raised by toxic parents, I had no choice but to do as they said.
I didn't have a single shred of self-identity.
I had no dreams and nothing I wanted to do.
I couldn't live without depending on someone else.
I fell for investment scams multiple times and lost nearly 3 million yen,
and even though I lived with my parents, for some reason, my savings were zero.
I was living on the edge with revolving credit payments.
Anyway, it was miserable.
.
That is exactly why I want to share this.
・Currently feeling somewhat lost and troubled
・Not doing what you actually want to do
・Exhausted from a self-sacrificial life while saying it's "for someone else's sake"
・Want to change but don't know how
To those of you struggling like this.
In truth, you can shine even brighter.
You can change your own destiny.
That is what I want to tell you.
.
"Didn't things work out for you just because you're Yui?"
I'm sure some of you think that.
So, this time, I'm going to touch upon my somewhat dark past,
which I haven't talked about to anyone until now.
It will be a bit long,
but I would be happy if you read it to the end.
A childhood with no freedom, just walking on eggshells

My parents were what you would call toxic parents.
They were obsessed with academic credentials and practiced excessive, Spartan discipline.
And they were overprotective and overbearing.
My father was a chauvinist the likes of which are rare these days,
and if something didn't please him, he would kick my mother out of the house,
and making her apologize on her knees was an everyday occurrence.
.
There were many shocking things, but
among them, there is a scene that I just cannot get out of my mind.
It happened when I was five years old.
My parents started arguing over something trivial,
and when I realized it, my father was holding a blade in his hand,
and the tip was pointed toward my mother.
The light from the fluorescent lamp glinted off the flat of the blade.
My mind couldn't keep up with understanding
what was happening right in front of me.
I just instinctively felt,
"If I go against this person, I won't survive."
.
Growing up in a house ruled by such a reign of terror,
I became a child who would watch my parents' expressions and swallow my true feelings
to ensure things went smoothly.
That was the only way I could survive.
For me, it was a survival strategy within the home.
I apparently look like a young lady,
and sometimes people say, "You must have been raised like a princess, right?"
but when I was scolded, I was often hit.
The phrase "the sense of security of one's childhood home"
is an environment I will never be able to understand in my life 😇
I don't even wish for things I want to do.
Days of numbing my senses
Thankfully, my parents
poured money into my education without hesitation, but
they had an educational policy of making me study no matter what, without allowing any room for argument.
Thanks to that, I was admitted to one of the top prestigious schools in the prefecture through middle school entrance exams.
I thought my fun student life would start from there—but that was not the case.
Even if I try to remember my middle and high school days,
I have almost no memories, and they are days I genuinely do not want to recall,
to the point where those memories are sealed away.
There is a survey result suggesting that many people feel
they would pay all their assets to return to their teens, but
even if I were given 100 million yen, I would absolutely never want to go back.
They were such hellish days that I feel that way.
.
My brother, who is seven years older than me, also received the same Spartan education,
and thanks to that, he passed the entrance exam for the University of Tokyo on his first try.
Because of that, my parents were desperate to get me into the University of Tokyo as well.
I had loved drawing since I was little,
so when I entered middle school, I was excited, thinking, "I definitely want to join the art club."
"You have to study, so
choose a club that isn't busy.
It will be useful in the future, so join the cooking club."
I wasn't even given the room to choose,
and for some reason, I was forced into the cooking club.
(No, I'm only in my first year of middle school???
At least let me join the club I like...)
I would go straight home after class ended.
After eating dinner, I would study until past 10 PM.
I would also study from morning until night on holidays.
Since I had to keep a record of my
homecoming time and study time, I couldn't slack off.
And I studied on Christmas and my birthday too.
New Year's Eve was the only exception where I could finish at 7 PM.
What on earth is fun about living?
That's how much I was buried in studying...
Going out to play with friends after school,
meeting friends on holidays,
or freely enjoying hobbies and things I liked.
Without ever experiencing those things,
the time called youth passed by.
I no longer had a will of my own.
I was nothing but a puppet for my parents.
Acquaintances who know me well
would say that I wasn't just a sheltered girl, but a prisoner girl 😇 lol
I would go crazy if I kept my normal senses, so
from this time on, I tried todiscard the feeling of "I want to do this".
.
I studied that much, so naturally, my grades were good.
(It would be a problem if they weren't...)
I scored over 90 in almost all major subjects.
When I was in high school, I even became a scholarship student at a cram school.
People around me would often say,
"Wow! I'm jealous!"
"I want to be like Yui-chan."
That is what they would often say to me.
But,
No, no, no!
I'm the one who envies you...
I truly felt that from the bottom of my heart.
Every time I saw people doing what they wanted and enjoying life to the fullest,
I was so envious that I didn't want to accept my own reality.
"Why was I born into a family like this?"
I seriously cursed my own fate.
.
Around the end of my second year of high school,
I finally couldn't take it anymore and fell into a mild state of depression.
At a time when everyone else was getting serious about entrance exam preparation,
I, on the contrary, couldn't focus on anything.
My grades, which I had maintained through sheer brute force of study volume,
were easily surpassed once my naturally gifted classmates started getting serious.
Furthermore, as we split into humanities and sciences,
the exams we were supposed to take changed based on our career paths,
whereas we had all been taking the same ones until then.
At that moment, it suddenly occurred to me.
—Wait. What was I trying to win at by working so hard?
I really couldn't understand the meaning of it anymore.
What do I want to do?
Where am I heading?
There were no answers to those questions.
Even after gaining my freedom,
all that was there was a "me with nothing."
To at least get out from under my parents' surveillance,
I managed to work hard for university entrance exams,
and although it wasn't my first choice, I was able to get into a university.
I wanted to escape my parents,
and I had been waiting for this moment for so, so long.
But once I actually became a university student,
I was stunned.
All I could do was the studying they taught me at school.
Because I had just been doing exactly what my parents told me,
I really couldn't start anything on my own,
nor could I think for myself.
When I looked around, everyone else had things they wanted to do and were living their lives happily and vibrantly.
Everyone looked so radiant.
Standing among them, I felt like an invisible person.
I have nothing.
If my parents don't decide for me, I can't do anything.
The moment I became free, that was the reality I was confronted with.
The word 'helplessness' wasn't enough.
There was no 'me' anywhere.
I just wanted to become someone.
What was I thinking back then?
I want to become someone.
That was my only thought. I didn't care what it was, as long as I could turn my life around in one shot.
That was when
an acquaintance approached me with a story about 'how to become rich'.
I understand it now.
It was suspicious no matter how you look at it.
Or rather, it was nothing but suspicious...
But back then, I had
no criteria to judge it as suspicious,
and no personal core to refuse it.
As a result, I lost 3 million yen.

I went to Malaysia, where the investment company's headquarters were, with about five strangers who were Chinese lol
I lacked the power to think for myself.
I lacked self-confidence. I wanted to become someone.
It took me until about my third year of working
to pay it all off with revolving credit...
Meeting the mentor who changed my life
I was spending my days going nowhere,
during my second year of university.
The partner I was dating at the time
suddenly started learning palmistry.
Fortune telling is fun as entertainment, but
I didn't like the feeling of having my fate decided for me.
It's scary if they tell you something bad...
Even so, they said, 'Come hang out at the trial workshop,'
and dragged me out, so I reluctantly headed to the trial session.
The mentor I met there
would have a huge impact on my life.
.
That mentor was a seasoned veteran with over 30 years of experience in fortune telling.
With his thick beard and dignified presence,
his large eyes seemed to see right through everything.
When we first met, the moment he saw me,
he spoke in a solemn tone.
“You are extremely competitive, and
you’ve worked incredibly hard to keep up with those around you.
Also, I suspect you’ve had poor eyesight since birth.”
Since I was aware that “competitive” and “poor eyesight” were in my top 10 traits,
I never expected him to say that the very first time we met,
and I couldn't help but get goosebumps.
“Uh... that’s exactly right.
Is there anything else you can tell me...?”
It was so accurate that I was honestly scared.
What if he told me something unpleasant next?
I wanted to know, but I didn't want to know.
As I asked him timidly while feeling that way, he continued.
“Looking at your palm, it shows that you ‘lack a sense of self.’
You are easily swayed by those around you and lack your own opinions.
You’re very troubled by that, aren’t you?
But, if you look at it differently—
Right now, Yui, you are like a blank canvas.
You can be dyed any color.
You have so much hidden potential.
That is precisely why who you associate with will affect you for better or worse, so
be careful about that and learn to judge people well.”
He said that quietly.
***
“Lack a sense of self”
That was something I had always considered my flaw,
and the part of myself I hated the most.
But the moment I heard those words from him,
—I see. If I haven’t established myself yet, it means
I still have the potential to become anything!
For the first time in my life,
I felt like I could affirm myself.
.
And then, he continued further.
"Palmistry reflects your own thoughts and actions.
Therefore, if you change yourself, your palm lines will change too.
You can also change your life.
Some people think fortune telling is about predicting the future, but
my perspective is different.
I do fortune telling to create the future.
Instead of being pessimistic and asking,
'Why is my fate like this?',
if that's how you feel, let's change it ourselves.
Create your own destiny!"
Those words struck me right in the heart.
"Why was I born into a family like this?"
I had been lamenting that for nearly 20 years, but
I realized, I can actually step off the path my parents set for me,
live life the way I want,
and change my destiny.
I was able to think that purely.
I didn't originally like fortune telling because I felt it meant my fate was being decided for me,
and according to astrology, I'm an Aries,
described as 'passionate, proactive, and a leader type,'
which was the complete opposite of my personality,
so I thought... I can't really believe this.
But this person's fortune telling wasn't about making definitive judgments, but rather
creating the future together.
Fate isn't something that is set in stone.
There are countless branches for what the future could become,
and you choose one of them yourself.
I also have the right to choose my own life. For the first time in my life, that was the moment I felt that.
And so, I decided to learn palmistry under that mentor.

Remembering my true self
As I started learning palmistry,
・What kind of person I truly am.
・What my strengths are and where I tend to stumble.
・And how I can resolve those issues.
I gradually began to understand those things.
Up until then, I was thinking about things not based on
'what I want to do'
but on 'will my parents allow it?'
or 'what kind of reaction will they have?'
By doing that, every emotion was filtered through my parents,
my true feelings were no longer my own,
and I lost sight of myself.
.
But as I got to know myself through palmistry,
'Oh, maybe this is who I really am,'
the moments I thought that started to increase.
It felt like the cloudy glasses I had been wearing
were gradually becoming clear.

Back to rock bottom in life
I started to understand myself,
my fortune-telling income started to rise, and life was going well!
——That is not how life works.
.
Although fortune-telling is fun,
I thought it would be difficult to make it my main career,
so I got a job at a regular company.
I intended to continue it as a fun side job,
an extension of my hobby.
It was just before Golden Week in my first year as a working adult.
I suddenly lost contact with the boyfriend at the time
who had inspired me to start palm reading.
I had a bad feeling.
Could it be——
No, I didn't want this premonition to be true.
Perhaps because I practiced fortune-telling,
my intuition had become strangely sharp.
That premonition was spot on.
When I searched for his name online,
a news article jumped out at me.
He had been arrested for fraud.
.
The color drained from the world before my eyes all at once.
Everything I ate tasted bland.
Days like that continued.
For three months, I cried almost every night.
(Because I'm mentally unstable...)
It took me two years to regain my peace of mind.
And by that time, I had been swallowed up by my daily life as a company employee,
and had drifted away from fortune-telling.
Do what you want to do now
When my mental health recovered,
and I started to be able to look forward again,
thinking, 'I want to try something new again.'
Another incident occurred, and I was in a traffic accident.
I fractured both knees and my left ankle.
A major injury that would take over two years to fully heal.
The doctor told me that if the point of impact had been even slightly different,
I would have died instantly,
so it was a stroke of luck in my misfortune that I survived.

※I have written about this in detail in another article,
so please be sure to read that as well👇️
Despair is what turns life around. Looking back after 4 years of nearly dying in a traffic accident
At the time, I was in my late 20s and could still do anything.
If I wanted to do it, I could do it anytime.
I thought so, without any basis.
But after the accident, I realized something.
No one can guarantee that you will be able to live healthily tomorrow or the day after.
Lying on a bed where I couldn't move my legs and could only see the ceiling,
for the first time in my life, I felt that fact
as a reality.
Moreover, at the time, I was told that I might remain disabled in my legs,
so if that happened, the companies and jobs I could work at would be limited.
That was when it popped into my head.
——Will I die while continuing to think, 'I'll do what I want to do someday'?
The answer is NO.
I decided to do what I want to do now so I wouldn't have any regrets.
And the first thing that came to mind as something I 'wanted to do' was fortune-telling.
With fortune-telling, I can do it anywhere, anytime.
Even if I can't move my legs, I can do it from my bed.
I searched for information on social media about how to make fortune-telling my job,
and although I had almost no money at the time,
I joined a fortune-telling school while I was hospitalized.
Since I could do readings via text from my bed,
I listed my services on Coconala,
recruited clients for readings on X (formerly Twitter),
and did fortune-telling on my smartphone in my spare time.
.
If I hadn't been in the accident,
I don't think I would have returned to the path of fortune-telling.
I would probably still be a company employee,
saying, 'I want to do it someday.'
When I think about it that way——
My life changed thanks to the accident, and
I can choose a path to live without regrets,
so I can honestly say I'm glad it happened.
The future is something you create yourself
From there, my life really changed.
I had been scammed out of 3 million yen in the past and had continued to be mentally ill from being unnecessarily heartbroken in love, but
I learned to listen to my true feelings about "what I want to do" and became able to choose what I want to do of my own volition.
When I look back at old photos, my face has changed so much, haha.
I've studied physiognomy, and it's true that your inner self really shows on your face.

Far right: At age 30
I myself originally lived only on the path laid out by my parents, and I had no self-confidence and nothing I wanted to do.
But the reason I was able to think about changing from there was
because I learned that palm lines change
and that you can change your own future.
.
That is why I do not provide readings that predict the future.
Palm lines are a reflection of your thoughts and actions.
Therefore, if you change, your palm lines will change too.
Know your current state,
know what will happen if you continue as you are,
and then walk toward the future you desire on your own two feet.
I want you to use fortune-telling for that purpose.
Destiny is not something that is decided. It is something you create.
I want to pass on to you the words my mentor gave me 12 years ago.
.
If you are currently thinking, "I have nothing," or "My life is just going to be like this anyway," those are things I used to think every day.
A blank canvas doesn't mean nothing is drawn on it.
It means you can draw anything you want from now on.
Finally
