Watching this exchange with a young person, I wondered if he was lamenting that his body had declined and he could no longer move like he used to. What was the implication? I was left behind while I was thinking about it.

I was caught off guard. I had made an easy, self-serving assumption based on the previous words and stopped thinking.
It was completely different.
If so, was that young person's reaction also a depiction of "needing more time to understand"?

As the story progresses, he gradually reveals his painful past and feelings while empathizing with the hearts of the people he meets.

This film by David Lynch simply shows love and forgiveness. It is moving and timeless.

Watching this conversation with the young man, I wondered if he felt a sadness at no longer being able to move as before, because of his weaker body.
I wondered again: what is the true meaning? But before I could find it, the story continued.

I was wrong. Because of the words just before, I imagined something too simple, and I stopped thinking.

That wasn't it at all.
So, the young man's reaction perhaps meant to express: "It still takes time for young people to understand."

As the story progresses, he gradually talks about his painful past and his feelings, while being close to the people he meets.

I understand.
"Even if he wants to forget it, his past never disappears. It always remains in his heart and makes him suffer."

Offering one's wounds
