[Introduction 3] The secret to maintaining effort is not willpower, but 'deciding in advance'
The more people struggle to maintain effort, the more they try to decide on the spot every time.
'Should I exercise today?'
'Should I study today?'
'Should I give up snacks today?'
However, when you think about this with a tired brain after work, you will almost always lose.
This is because when you are tired, you basically want to make the easiest choice.
'I'm tired today, so I guess it's fine.'
'I'll just start tomorrow.'
'I'll just look at my phone for a little bit before I start.'
That 'little bit' is surprisingly powerful.
That is why it is important not to let your nighttime self make the decisions.
Decide in advance.
This is very effective.
For example,
'When I get home, I will take a 5-minute walk before I take off my shoes at the entrance.'
'Before I take a bath, I will do just 5 push-ups.'
'After dinner, I will drink a cup of hot water before I look at my phone.'
'Before I go to bed, I will read just one page of an investment book.'
'I will not buy snacks on weekdays. If I eat them, it will only be on Saturdays.'
It's like this.
The point is not to decide based on your mood.
Instead of 'I'll do it if I feel like it,' decide, 'When this timing comes, I will do this.'
Just doing this will make a big difference.
In my case, too, it was impossible to suddenly start a perfect, healthy life.
There are days when I get home late from sales calls, and days when I'm tired and want to stop by a convenience store.
There are also days when I try to study investing, but the difficult terminology just makes me sleepy.
So at first, I made it really small.
'Step on the scale when I get home.'
Instead of 'cutting out carbohydrates at night,' start by 'reducing the amount a little.'
Instead of 'watching a whole investment video,' start by 'looking up just one term.'
It's just this much.
But strangely enough, once you do it once, your mood changes a little.
'Well, at least it wasn't zero today.'
This feeling is important.
People with strong self-loathing only look at what they couldn't do.
But when you create a system, the things you were able to do will gradually increase.
I walked for 5 minutes.
I didn't buy snacks.
I read one page of a book.
I reduced my phone time before bed by 10 minutes.
These are small, but they are all 'investments in your future self.'
Health and investing are the same; they don't grow significantly all at once.
Small accumulations will pay off later.
Your belly didn't pop out in one day.
So, it's impossible to flatten it in one day either.
Financial knowledge isn't acquired in one day either.
So, you have no choice but to engage with it a little every day.
Let me give you a push here.
As long as you think you'll change someday, you probably won't.
But you can change if it's just for 5 minutes today.
You don't have to think about changing your life or anything big.
First, after you get home today, do just one thing before you look at your phone.
If you can do that, you are already not the same as you were yesterday.
