The Starving Kuya Statue
Something is "coming out" of his mouth | that guy (not Voldemort).
Yes, that's Kuya-san. To the middle school version of me who thought what was "
coming out" of Kuya-san's mouth wasn't "coming out" but rather "
being sucked in", I want to say something.
Stop with the Kuya-is-hungry theory.
【Kuya】

Date of passing: September 11, Tenroku 3 (972)
Birthplace: Secret
Place of death: Saikō-ji (present-day Rokuharamitsu-ji)
| Affiliation (Sect): Jōdo-shū (Kuya school)
| Affiliation (Temple): Saikō-ji
Position: Mid-Heian period monk, rapper, dancer
Person I respect: Enshō

| Mausoleum (resting place): Shōnin-zuka in Betsugu, Kotoura-chō, Tōhaku-gun, Tottori Prefecture

Me: "There's that statue of the guy sucking people in, right?"
Y: "Sucking people in?"
Me: "Yeah, sucking them in."
Y: "...Could you mean | this (the Kuya from the textbook)?"
Me: "Yeah, that one!"
Y: "That's not sucking them in, he's letting them out!"
Me: "My apologies, that's right. My teacher told me the same thing in middle school."
Y: "You thought he was a cannibal? Pfft, that's so cringey it hurts!"
Me: "I don't think it's cannibalism."
Y: "I didn't say cannibalism...! Yomogi, are you saying Kuya is hungry?"
Me: "Well, Kuya gets hungry too, right? He's starving while doing his | Namu Amida Butsu (rap) battle."
Y: "He's not starving while doing a | Namu Amida Butsu (rap) battle! Pfft! And don't just naturally treat Namu Amida Butsu like a rap!"
The "style of emitting Buddhas from the mouth" is apparently an homage to the Chinese monk,
| Shandao-san. Mr.
Kuya seems to have developed a sense of respect for Shandao-san, who saves people with | Namu Amida Butsu (rap).
I wonder at what level (Pokémon?) he learns the skill to emit 6 Buddhas from his mouth.
Me: "Even so, if he's emitting them rather than sucking them in, who is he emitting? Is it like the principle of a gastric-brooding frog?"
Y: "A gastric-brooding frog?"
Me: "The one that raises tadpoles in its stomach and gives birth through its mouth."
Y: "That's not it! That's Amida Buddha. To put it in Yomogi-speak, it's the | visualization of the audio information of Namu Amida Butsu (rap)!"
Me: "Whoa! Amazing! It's solidified voice! Kuya is amazing!!"

Kamakura period, 13th century
Collection of Rokuharamitsu-ji, Kyoto
Me: "His head is a vacant lot, right? It's a 'matching look' with Kino-P."
*Kino-P = Skinhead PE teacher
↑ Details on Kino-P here.
Y: "What's with that way of saying 'matching look'! You're definitely making fun of everyone involved."
Me: "I'm not."
With a cool skinhead, a
mobile cymbal on the chest, a
T-shaped drumstick in the right hand, a deer antler wand
in the left hand, Japanese-style gladiator sandals
, and a bell-sleeved dress that beautifully shows off those slender yet powerful legs while glamorously accentuating the upper body, it is actually made of deer fur. And the essential accent to the outfit is the
six Amida Buddha statues leaping from the mouth. ...The fact that bell sleeves suit him makes me wonder, is
Kuya a 'skeletal wave' body type? By the way, it seems Kuya had very dense leg hair
. The Kuya statue
in the collection of the Fujita Art Museum (10-32 Amijima-cho, Miyakojima-ku, Osaka) apparently has leg hair, so I really want to go see it. Me: 'Kuya is a
drummer, huh.' Y: 'You were treating him like a
rapper
until just a moment ago.' Me: 'mobile cymbal hanging there, look.' Y: 'Okay, I'll give you that one.' Me: 'Is he Yukihiro from L'Arc-en-Ciel?' Y: 'No.' Kuya, a deer lover of
Kuya why
deer fur and deer antler wand
such as
deer-blaspheming style outfit I was curious about why he is wearing it, so I transcended time and space to look it up for my 16-year-old self.
Kuyahad a pet deerthat he cherished, but for some reason,
Taira no Sadamorishot and killed it, and Kuya's grief was so deep it reached the Earth's mantle and then some. Kuyathen made clothes and a staff out of the deer's remains, wearing them so he could always be with his precious "
Kuyadeer".deer".
For reasons like that, it turns out it was definitely not in the same vein as a certain Cruella.
???: "Dancerwould be a good way to put it."
Y: "Whoa, you scared me."
Me: "Oh, here we go!! You've come to mock me again by saying I'm "uneducated" or something, I get it."
Mr. N-da: "So you do get it."
Me: "So, why a dancer?"
Mr. N-da: "Because this guy is the Dancing Nenbutsu guy."
Me: "Isn't the Dancing Nenbutsu by Ippen? Isn't it the Ji sect? Teacher, you were dancing suddenly in class the other day, weren't you? And then you fell, didn't you? Off the podium."
Mr. N-da: "Your logic is sloppy. This is why uneducated people are..."
【The Best of Kuya】
Title Track: Kuya's Dancing Nenbutsu
<Song Commentary> It has an exorcistic meaning, wishing for the dispersal of plagues. Instead of using the direct words "
Namu Amida Butsu", it uses a phrase similar to dynamite, "Moda Nanmaito", adding novelty and depth to the words. <Behind the Scenes> In the Kamakura period, the Nenbutsu was treated as "uncool" (suppressed), so he covered the inner sanctuary of the main hall with folding screens and continued his live performances so he wouldn't be found by those who couldn't understand its greatness. <Review> It's seriously cool. My respect is endless, so I will inherit Kuya-senpai's will and continue the "Dancing Nenbutsu" into the future, so don't worry. by Ippen
Kuya was the Dancing Nenbutsu's founder. I think it was probably buzzing at a level comparable to the Giri Giri Dance.
↑ Kuya is a YouTuber theory (False)
The man "Kuya starvation theory" that I was initially embarrassed by, is a man who pulls you deeper into the rabbit hole the more you dig into him, "
Kuya". Also, it seems you can still experience
Odori Nenbutsu today. Last year, it appears it was held in the main hall of Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple from December 13th to the 31st.
I think it will be held around that time this year too, so be sure to check it out.
That is all from me, Yomogi, who has no religion and nothing special, despite being a
Zen sect thoroughbred with a mother's side buried in the Soto sect and a father's side in the Rinzai sect.
If the sect were Yakuza, I can only see a future where I get taken out like that deer, with them saying, "Don't let an outsider talk about our boss! BANG!!!"
so I would like to hide inside
Kuya
's mouth, pretending to be the seventh Buddha. [Nonsense] If Kuya were to be revived in the modern age, he would probably be eating curry udon while wearing white clothes. Also, he would probably be wearing the lighter blue Uniqlo regular fit jeans.
