A phenomenon where words that suddenly enter your ears
take on a mysterious state due to a misperception by the brain.
This is called a "mishearing."
When we say mishearing, it feels like it's the ear's fault, but
since the ear just transmits the generated sound to the brain without any special processing,
the culprit of the "mishearing" is the brain.
The ear is innocent.
It's not that I want to defend the ear or anything like that.
This is a condition where I have to digress once or I'll lose my mind, so please forgive me.
A few days ago,
I heard a conversation saying, "When you have a baby, your sleep tends to become solemn, doesn't it?"
But I realized in an instant,
"Oh, I misperceived that."
(Incorrect) My sleep tends to become
solemn (Correct) My sleep tends to become neglected
Sleep isn't exactly conducted solemnly, I suppose.
At the very least, my sleep is not solemn at all.
If my sleep is going well, it lasts for two hours at a time, and in that time I am usually
being chased by mysterious objects or people,
or dreaming that my assignments aren't finished,
or that I'm about to be late.
So when I wake up,
my heart is pounding as if I've done Nakayama Kinnikun's HIIT five times in a row. My sleep is an event where I can do strength training and cardio at the same time (?).
How could this possibly be called "solemn"?
↑
Nakayama Kinnikun's HIIT is here.
By the way, I do this almost every day.
So,
"When you have a baby, your sleep tends to become neglected, doesn't it?"
is the correct version.
Well, of course it does.
Babies don't care about morning, noon, or night, after all.
Their life cycle turnover rate is different from adults like me who have rusted over, so it can't be helped.
That's right.
Around this time about eight years ago, I even acquired the special ability to wake up 10 seconds before my daughter started crying "WAAAAH!!", which is shocking.
When I think about how I was running around keeping my baby comfortable with diapers or milk while my sleep was
neglected, I feel a sense of wonder about where I got that vitality. "You're in your 20s, so you'll be fine, you can do it!"
Under that mysterious encouragement,
I was channeling Sakura Kinomoto in my heart, thinking "It will definitely be okay."
Was I having precognitive dreams of my daughter starting to cry?
Doesn't that make me a person with considerable magical power?
Couldn't I seal all the Clow Cards?
That said, when I was in high school,
I lived by going to bed at 23:00 and waking up at 14:00,
neglecting my waking hours and prioritizing sleep,
which, thinking about it now, was a complete waste of time,
so perhaps the state of my sleep being
neglected
after childbirth, and now that I can't sleep well since suffering from depression, were necessary elements to balance the pluses and minuses.
Someday, when I manage to achieve "solemn" sleep,
I will report it.
Because the quality of my sleep is so messed up
and I only have nightmares,
I am eyeing a pillow with a shape that looks like it could ward off evil.
