Let's turn "having a rich imagination" into a weapon for creating your life.
Have you ever been told, "You have such a rich imagination!"?
I have (laughs).
In fact, I've been told that my whole life since I was a child.
I loved books so much that it was an everyday occurrence for me to get excited by projecting myself onto the protagonists of stories.
However, I feel that the phrase "having a rich imagination" is sometimes not used in a positive sense.
For instance, isn't it often used as a euphemism for criticisms like "overthinking," "being too prone to assumptions," or "being emotionally unstable"?
However, at YOKU STUDIO, we believe that imagination is extremely important for proactively enjoying your own life!
So this time, we will deconstruct the negative images often associated with "having a rich imagination" and explore the potential it holds.
・What does it mean to "have a rich imagination"?
I think people who are generally said to "have a rich imagination" are those who have a strong interest in areas beyond the "facts right in front of them."
For example, people with these qualities:
・Can immerse themselves in worlds of fiction such as novels, manga, and movies
・Can vividly envision dreams of "how I wish things would be"
・Have high sensitivity to the feelings of others that are not clearly expressed in words or attitudes
…When you think about it that way, it starts to feel like imagination is an essential skill for human beings.
In order for us to live, what is most important is to perceive the "facts right in front of us," analyze them, and take the optimal action, isn't it?
If you are hungry, you eat; if you are thirsty, you drink water; if you are sleepy, you sleep...
To put it extremely, if you only analyze the "facts right in front of you" and continue to deal with them based on that, you can at least survive.
However, for people, that alone is not enough to easily maintain motivation for daily life.
・What shall I do tomorrow after work?
・What kind of person will I become in the future?
・If I were the protagonist of that movie, what actions would I take today?
・What is the person I like thinking about right now?
I think the little thrills that make our hearts race are born from thinking about new possibilities that go beyond the analysis of the 'facts right in front of us' in this way.
People who are 'rich in imagination' can be considered people with a high capacity for manufacturing excitement—that is, people with a high capacity for enjoying life.
・Is 'imagination' something negative?
However, there are certainly cases where being 'rich in imagination' seems to end up causing suffering to both oneself and others.
For example...
・Getting too absorbed in the world of anime and becoming completely unable to see reality
・Convincing oneself that one is a tragic heroine (or hero) and immersing oneself in that drama
・Suspecting that a close friend actually hates you and getting deeply hurt
・Feeling that a partner's feelings must have drifted away from you and becoming overly possessive
These are cases where a certain kind of delusional thinking or escapism arises.
However, these cases are not actually caused by being 'rich in imagination'.
Rather, it is caused by absolutely believing in 'another hidden truth' that is not an 'objective fact'.
Isn't it precisely because imagination is working as an analytical tool to uncover 'another hidden truth' that such extreme emotional swings and strong fixations are born?
I believe the problem is not 'having a rich imagination,' but rather, conversely, 'having a limited and dogmatic imagination.'

・Richness of imagination = Richness of possibilities
In the first place, imagination is not the ability to find the single answer hidden behind things, but rather the exact opposite.
There are many possible interpretations of things, and depending on those interpretations, there is the potential for them to develop in any number of ways.
The ability to vividly envision those many possibilities is what imagination is.
In other words, I think the essence of imagination is not the movement toward closing in on a single answer, but rather the movement toward opening up to many possibilities.
That is precisely why 'having a rich imagination' brings, quite literally, 'rich' possibilities to a person's life, doesn't it?
For example, when your partner looks like they are in a bad mood.
If you assume the single answer behind that fact is, 'They must be annoyed with me! They must hate me!' and exclude all other possibilities... it will result in nothing but stress for both of you.
However, if you can exercise your imagination 'richly,' I think your relationship with the other person will become much easier.
There are actually many things you can assume as the cause of the other person's bad mood, other than 'they hate me.'
Since various possibilities exist, such as 'they are hungry' or 'they made a mistake at work,' you can imagine and execute several exciting options from there, such as 'going out to eat a delicious meal together' or 'taking paid leave on the same day to relax.'
In this way, the advantage of imagination is not interpreting things in a limited way, but being able to envision many developmental possibilitiesI think.
In other words, the richness of imagination is equal to the richness of the possibilities a person has in their life.
'Having a rich imagination' becomes a weapon for creating your life.
While the modern era is an age of evidence-based thinking where analytical skills to find a single answer are highly valued...
as a skill for enjoying life, imagination might actually be far more beneficial.
