The Movie "(LOVE SONG)": The Target of Sota's Anger

The long-running screening of "(LOVE SONG)" continues.
Unfortunately, there have been no screening opportunities in my area since the end of the year, but every time I see updates on social media, my heart feels warm and fuzzy.

One of the charms of this film is its "negative space."
Because it is a film that raises many questions in a good way, it makes me want to go see it again and again, and learn more about it.
I think that is also what leads to its long run.

Come to think of it, I recently had a new realization myself...
It suddenly came to mind, so I decided to write a note for the first time in a while.

That is about Sota's anger, as mentioned in the title.

Which anger, you ask? It's when Sota went on a rampage in his room after watching Kai's live performance.
Does heartbreak equal anger? Doesn't it not? Why? While I had those questions, I was once convinced by Win-kun's description in the commentary that he was "a bit childish."
Even so, I still couldn't quite accept that he would snap like that!

But the other day, while I was watching Kai's live performance scene as usual,

"I dreamed of days when two shadows would stand side by side"

Even though I've heard this song countless times, it suddenly occurred to me: isn't these lyrics quite cruel to Sota, who thought the person Kai liked was Yuki?

After all, if the "two shadows" refer to Kai and Yuki, then I, who was always with him, would have been the one getting in the way of Kai's wish.
The feeling of not being able to forgive myself for that, and the sadness that the heartbreak had become definitive.
If his anger was caused by those two emotions mixing together so exquisitely...

Interpretations are up to each individual, and only Sota knows the truth.
Even so, this way of thinking made the most sense to me, and I've come to love Sota even more than before, as he struggles while wishing for Kai's happiness.


I strongly feel that "(LOVE SONG)" is truly a wonderful work, as it allows me to encounter such interpretations and emotions even after watching it dozens of times.


And I am very happy that there are so many people who love "(LOVE SONG)" just as much, and that, as written in the email, those feelings are reaching Koji-kun himself.


A work that lets me encounter new feelings again and again.
I want to continue to cherish "(LOVE SONG)" like that forever🌻🌻
