[New Release] Kaori Ueno with Orchestra

Pianist Kaori Ueno, who resides in Kitakyushu City, held an orchestral performance last autumn. The recording of that event has now been released on CD and DVD.

On this album, Ueno maintains her trademark powerful playing style while also displaying a delicate lyricism that complements the orchestra; the sense of balance she achieves is truly impressive.

The orchestra supporting Ueno features a sound reminiscent of a bright, airy American symphony, in contrast to the heavy European style. It is also a highly mobile ensemble capable of adapting flexibly, much like the accompaniment for a silent film. Furthermore, I hope everyone will listen and enjoy how elegantly this orchestra swings.

The orchestration for each track vividly enhances Ueno's compositions, making for a very pleasant listening experience. The arrangements for the songs themed around children and pet cats were also overflowing with affection.

The highlight among the tracks was George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." I felt a fresh sense of surprise every time I listened to the bold ideas scattered throughout by Ueno and the soloists. The way the passionate performance unexpectedly draws cheers from the audience is also a major highlight.

This album evokes a great sense of exhilaration along with the tension unique to a live, one-take recording. Highly recommended!
