Revenue of $13.6 billion (approx. 2.18 trillion yen) also exceeded the midpoint of guidance by $1.4 billion, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of beating expectations. The stock price surged 23.3% the following day, reaching an all-time high of $82.55. Up 240% from the $18 range in April 2025, we perform a deep dive into the 'substance' of one of the largest turnarounds in semiconductor history based on SEC filings.
1. Earnings Headline Summary
Revenue was $13.6 billion (approx. 2.18 trillion yen, +7% YoY). This exceeded the midpoint of the company's own guidance ($12.2 billion) by $1.4 billion and significantly beat the Wall Street consensus of $12.42 billion. This marks the sixth consecutive quarter of beating guidance.
Non-GAAP EPS was $0.29. The company's guidance was 'break-even ($0.00),' and the consensus was $0.01. While this includes a $0.06 one-time interest and other income gain, even excluding that, it was a significant beat at $0.23. GAAP EPS was -$0.73 (due to approximately $2.1 billion, or approx. 336 billion yen, in restructuring charges).
Non-GAAP gross margin was 41%—about 650bp above the 34.5% guidance. This was driven by increased volume, improved mix, price adjustments, and yield improvements on the 18A node.
Operating cash flow was $1.1 billion (approx. 176 billion yen). However, due to capital expenditures of $5 billion (approx. 800 billion yen, gross), adjusted free cash flow remained in negative territory at -$2 billion (approx. -320 billion yen).

Data Center & AI (DCAI) — Growth Engine
Revenue was $5.1 billion (approx. 816 billion yen, +22% YoY, +7% QoQ). This recorded the highest growth rate among all Intel segments. AI-related business accounted for 60% of total revenue, expanding rapidly by 40% YoY. This was driven by a surge in demand for Xeon processors in data center and AI applications.
★ Investor Perspective: A 22% increase in DCAI is a figure that completely changes the assessment of Intel, which had been viewed as an 'AI loser' overshadowed by NVIDIA. CPUs are essential for AI inference and agent processing, and the 'GPU-only' narrative is being corrected.
Client Computing (CCG) — Stable
Revenue was $7.7 billion (approx. 1.23 trillion yen, +1% YoY, -6% QoQ). Although it decreased compared to the previous quarter, it exceeded internal expectations. Operating profit was $2.5 billion (approx. 400 billion yen). Core Ultra Series 3 (18A process) has been adopted in over 200 PC designs, and there is room for growth alongside the adoption of AI PCs.
Intel Foundry — Signs of Narrowing Losses
Revenue was $5.4 billion (approx. 864 billion yen, +16% YoY, +20% QoQ). External foundry revenue was $174 million (approx. 27.8 billion yen). The operating loss was -$2.4 billion (approx. -384 billion yen), but this is an improvement of $72 million from the previous quarter. The biggest milestone is that the 18A node entered the High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) phase in Q1 2026.
★ Investor Perspective: While a $2.4 billion foundry loss is still significant, the point is that it is trending toward improvement. Yield improvements for 18A (7-8% monthly increase) have been confirmed, and if external customer volume picks up in the second half of 2026, a path to break-even will come into view. Information that Microsoft and Amazon are adopting 18A reinforces its credibility as a counter-axis to TSMC.
Other (Altera + Mobileye)
Revenue was $628 million (-33% YoY). This was impacted by the separation and independence process of Altera and sluggish demand for Mobileye.

2. 18A Node Reaches High-Volume Manufacturing (HVM)
Intel 18A is the first Angstrom-generation process in the U.S., combining RibbonFET (Gate-All-Around) and PowerVia (backside power delivery). The stock surged +20% after the earnings announcement (after the close on 4/23). In the following session on 4/24, it closed up +23.33% at $82.55, hitting an all-time high. Trading volume was 264 million shares (about 2.5 times the 3-month average).
Up over 100% YTD in 2026. Up 240% from the April 2025 low of $18.18. Market capitalization is approximately $206 billion. However, the forward P/E is around 120x, which is high for the semiconductor sector.
★ Investor Perspective: The market has assigned a tech-company-like multiple to the two stories of 'Foundry Turnaround' and 'AI CPU Demand.' While the 'results' of DCI +22% and 18A mass production provide backing, the $2.4 billion foundry loss and negative $2 billion in adjusted FCF show that the company has not yet entered the investment recovery phase on a cash flow basis. The weight of $18 billion in CapEx (full-year projection) follows the same 'upfront investment for the future' structure as Tesla's $25 billion-plus.
5. Risk Factors and Future Focus Points
The foundry business's operating loss of $2.4 billion per quarter is a pace of nearly $10 billion per year. If 18A yield improvements do not proceed as planned, there is a risk that this deficit will expand.
External foundry revenue is only $174 million, a stark contrast to TSMC's quarterly revenue of over $25 billion. Whether Intel can secure 'marquee customers' for the 14A node (next-generation, risk production scheduled for 2027) will be the medium-term watershed moment.
The fact that GAAP EPS remains negative (-$0.73) and free cash flow is negative are risk factors for the 120x valuation. Future catalysts include the June 2 Computex keynote (CEO Tan), 14A customer announcements (H2 2026), and progress on Terafab.

The impact of the 2,800% EPS beat is immense, but its essence lies not in the numerical surprise, but in the 'structural change' represented by the transition to 18A node mass production and a 22% increase in DCAI. Intel, branded as an 'AI loser' in 2025, has caught the tailwind of CPU AI inference demand and is receiving national backing as the only U.S. alternative to TSMC in the foundry business—whether this composition can justify a P/E of 120x depends on future execution.
The theme I wrote about in my Tesla earnings article—'starting to pay for the cost of capital for dreams with real cash'—applies perfectly to Intel as well. Investing $18 billion in CapEx to launch the 18A/14A foundry business and collaborating with the Mask camp via Terafab—the results of this semiconductor 'moonshot' will not be visible until 2027 or later.
However, the decisive difference from Tesla is the double backup of state and industry: a '9.9% government stake' and a '$5 billion (approx. 800 billion yen) strategic investment from NVIDIA.' Intel failing is 'not permitted' in terms of U.S. semiconductor security—this implicit guarantee functions as a risk-reduction factor for investors.
