[Gotagi-san] 20260622 - A Chinese shoe repair sewing machine that became Showa-era style after I painted it black
Thank you always for visiting and for the ❤️ likes.
I am Morizo Nishino, a fictional sewing machine shop owner.
Do you all know about Chinese-made sewing machines? Since I am an alien, I end up buying junk that normal people wouldn't buy. People generally call this 'penny wise and pound foolish,' and as expected, it couldn't be used as is.
Today, I was playing around while adjusting a Chinese-made shoe repair sewing machine (a Chinese 'Happo' sewing machine) that I bought on Amazon.

After scrubbing it with sandpaper, I finally managed to get it to sew.

This sewing machine has a bobbin at the tip of a thin arm, but that bobbin is special and has absolutely no compatibility with the bobbins for black sewing machines.

I can almost hear a conversation with a 106-year-old grandmother.
"Where did you come from?"
"I was born in Zhejiang Province, China."
"Well, from today on, you're one of us."
Since I painted the pulley black, it doesn't look out of place even when lined up next to the grandmother machine. 😂
While I was at it, I also painted the base with varnish from a 100-yen shop. Note that in the photo, the sewing machine is facing the opposite direction.
This is today's Gotagi-san. It is being updated as needed.
Gotagi-san is a dialect used in parts of Mie Prefecture, and it is thought to originate from 'Gotaigi.' It means 'thank you very much for your hard work.'
