[Marital Relationship] How to deal with differences in values.
Born in a place 359km away, my husband.
By some twist of fate, he is now drinking coffee one meter in front of me.
It's strange when I think about it again.
It's been 15 years since I met my husband, but every day I'm surprised to learn about our differences in values and preferences.
Today, I would like to write about such low-level differences in values between a married couple, and
the ways we try to get along despite them.
1. The man who can't stand a messy room VS The woman who hates dust
It seems that a messy room is stressful for my husband.
When the floor is covered in LEGOs and Plarail tracks, he acts like a Shocker from Kamen Rider and
goes "Yeeeeee!!".
The Shocker doesn't expect me or the kids to clean up.
He starts cleaning up silently by himself.
After the Shocker walks by, a room with not a single LEGO piece left spreads out.
On the other hand, I don't mind if toys are scattered, but
I hate it when food crumbs or dust fall on the floor.
A single hair lying among the toys is more unpleasant to me than
the toys scattered all over the room.
I immediately summon the Quickle Wiper.
Watching me use the Quickle Wiper while skillfully avoiding the scattered toys, the Shocker
"Why can you clean without tidying up the toys? Yeee!"
he asks, but I can do it, so I do.
Recently, I've realized that if I walk behind the Shocker and clean,
we get a clear room with no toys or dust, so we've decided to team up.
2. The man who leaves used tissues on the table VS The woman who throws away socks
The used tissues are the ones used to blow his nose.
It's not that kind of tissue, obviously.
My husband has a weak nose.
His annual tissue consumption is insane.
Because of that, at my husband's strong request, all the tissues in our house are Hana Celeb. Luxurious.
If the trash can is far away, my husband piles up the tissues he used to blow his nose on the table.
Perhaps out of consideration, he lays down one tissue like a picnic sheet and stacks the used ones on top, but that's not the point.
I just hate having snot there.
In those times, I've decided to quietly bring the trash can closer to him.
On the other hand, I am the Queen of Leaving Clothes Everywhere (First Generation).
Even if I've worn clothes once, I leave them here and there, thinking, "I might wear them again." (And I end up not wearing them.)
What my husband hates most is
when I take off my socks while eating and throw them toward the washing machine like Shohei Ohtani.
.
No, I am aware that this is the lowest behavior as a human being, to the point where I can't even make excuses. But when I eat, my body temperature rises -> I want to take off my socks -> it's easier to put them in later if they are near the washing machine -> standing up is a hassle -> I throw them
, so there is at least some logic to it. No, I want you to say it makes sense.
Recently, trying to deceive my husband's eyes, the moment I threw my socks, I executed a classic strategy: "Oh! A UFO!!", and
the only ones who were fooled were my pure-hearted 3 and 5-year-old sons. (Too cute.)
After that, I ended up having to look for the UFO with them.
3. Still living together happily
Why are our values and preferences so different?
It might be genetics, or it might be the environment.
It might be because we were born 359 kilometers apart.
It's an unspoken agreement, but we try to:
• Not nag each other about our differences in values
→ Is your value system the absolute truth?
• Handle things we dislike ourselves
→ But we don't spoil each other
• Communicate daily
→ After all, what's important is the accumulation of daily efforts
We keep these in mind.
Since we ended up living together by fate, I hope it becomes a good time for both of us.
I want to have a relationship where we can enjoy our differences.
Happy human relationships lead to a wonderful family. A wonderful
family leads to wonderful friendships. Wonderful
friendships lead to wonderful community interactions.
Well, it would be nice if such wonderful relationships could spread, wouldn't it? Yeah, yeah.
I couldn't quite pull my note together today either, haha.
Thank you to everyone who read this.
