Started Skiing 2026
My home slope this year is Kagura, and I successfully started the season on December 5th.
First run. Since I skied so much last year (a total of 92 check-ins), I thought it might be surprisingly smooth. But then...
It's terrible... I can't ski at all. I can't get on the skis properly. The uncontrolled skis are flapping and thrashing as they slide down the snow.
Wait, how was I supposed to ski again? I fumbled through it, mixing in some snowplow turns and single-leg skiing.
After about two runs, I was crushed by a sense of despair. After doing all that last year and finally being able to ski a little, do I have to redo all of that? Thinking about the daily basic practice makes me feel like giving up.
That's right, today is powder day (it was snowing quite a bit). I thought, 'It's totally fine if I fall,' and as I tried various things, the adrenaline started to kick in. For a change of pace, I spun around, did some wide turns and short turns, and fell hard.
I-it's fun...
When you fall, your body and mind are suddenly set free.
From here on out, I'll ski while having fun. I've started to remember what I was doing last year, both in my body and my head. This is good. This is fun.
That said, I still don't have the feeling of being on the skis, and the force returning from the skis is weak. I'll keep incorporating basic practice here and there, add some playful elements, and have fun while preparing for the real thing. (When is the real thing, anyway...)
