A picture book bought with my first side-hustle income.
The other day, I was able to earn a little bit of income from a side job.
The amount is by no means large.
But it was the first money I earned by using my own time and working hard on my own.
I wondered, "What should I spend it on?"
When I thought about that,
my daughter was the first thing that came to mind.
Actually, for her first birthday,
we already gave her a gift from both of us as a couple.
Even so, as her dad,
I had a feeling that I wanted to give her something else.
If I was going to do it, I wanted to use the first money I earned from this side job.
That's what I thought, and what I chose was a picture book.
What comes to mind when you think of summer?
As I was walking through the bookstore thinking about that,
a picture book about fireworks caught my eye.
"This is it."
The price was a little over a thousand yen.
It wasn't an expensive purchase by any means.
But for me, it became a very special book.
When I got home, I sat cross-legged as usual.
Then, without me saying a word, my daughter sat right down on my lap.
I wrapped my arms around her from behind, and we opened the picture book together.
Every time I turned a page,
her little eyes stared intently at the fireworks.
Honestly, I don't know if she was happy.
But just watching her look at the picture book so happily,
I felt happy myself.
The first money I ever earned from a side job.
I don't think I will ever forget that the first way I spent it was on a gift for my daughter.
For now, the fireworks are still just in a picture book.
But, someday I want to go see real fireworks
together with my family of three.
When that day comes, I think I will read this article again.
*The fireworks picture book I gave to my daughter this time is here.
