カジノに初めて行った。
先に言っておくと、
大金はかけていないし、
負けて終わっている。
日本では現状カジノは違法なのでもちろん
そんな施設はないし、
おそらく日本にあっても
行くことはなかったと思う。
せっかく海外に来ているし
少しくらいならやってみるか
くらいの感覚で、足を運んだ。
平日ということもあり、
そこまで人は多くなく、
想像以上に静かな場所だった。
店の中央には大きな宅が複数あり
ブラックジャックやバカラ、
ルーレットなどをやっている。
その周りに機械がたくさんあり、
ルーレットやスロットなどで
賭けができるようになっている。
自分はブラックジャックやバカラは
やらなかったので、
周りにあるルーレットやスロットで
一通り遊んでいた。
機械でも人がやっても
あまり変わらないかもしれないが、
運の要素が強いので、
決めで予想するしかない。
自分が決めた数字とかに
予想通り球が入ると
多少の興奮はあった。
しかし、どこまで行ってもただの機械で
ここに大金を払う意味も
これでハラハラ高揚する感覚も
自分には到底理解ができないなと感じた。
冷めてるし、おもろないやつだなと
思われるかもしれないが、
自分は性に合っていない。
ただそれだけのことだと思う。
とはいえ、このカジノという場所が
本当にたくさんお金が動く場所で、
人間の本性が出る場所だという点においては
非常に興味が湧いてくる。
本当にルーレットの玉1つが赤に入るか黒に入るかで、天国と地獄どちらにでも転ぶ可能性があるという状況での人の狂気とも言える本気度。
まあそういう場面を実際には
見ていないのだが、
そんな楽しみ方の方が
自分は合っているような気もする。
まあ一回くらいは行ってみても
面白い空間ではあるなと思ったので
経験ができてよかったな。

I went to a casino for the first time.
Before I say anything else, I should mention that I didn’t gamble with a lot of money—and I ended up losing anyway.
Since casinos are currently illegal in Japan, I’d never had the chance to visit one before.
To be honest, even if there had been casinos back home, I probably wouldn’t have gone.
But since I was already overseas, I thought,
“Why not try it just once?”
So I decided to check it out.
It was a weekday, so the casino wasn’t very crowded.
One thing that surprised me was how quiet it was.
In the middle of the casino were several large gaming tables where people were playing blackjack, baccarat, and roulette.
Around them were rows of machines where you could play games like roulette and slot machines.
I didn’t try blackjack or baccarat.
Instead, I spent some time playing the roulette and slot machines.
Whether you’re playing at a machine or at a real table, the outcome is mostly based on luck.
All you can really do is make a prediction and hope for the best.
When the roulette ball landed on the number I had chosen, I did feel a small rush of excitement.
But at the same time, I couldn’t really understand why people would risk huge amounts of money on something like this.
No matter how I looked at it, it was still just a machine.
I couldn’t relate to the thrill that some people seem to get from gambling.
Maybe that makes me sound boring—or like I’m no fun.
But I think gambling simply isn’t for me.
That said, I do find casinos fascinating for a different reason.
They’re places where enormous amounts of money change hands, and where people’s true emotions often come to the surface.
Just imagining someone watching a roulette ball spin, knowing that everything depends on whether it lands on red or black, is strangely fascinating.
A single spin can feel like the difference between heaven and hell.
I didn’t actually witness any dramatic moments like that.
But observing people in those situations might be more interesting to me than gambling itself.
In the end, I’m glad I went.
It was an interesting place to experience, and I think it was worth visiting at least once.
