My 'Confusing' Favorite Words #NekoneKohaku
"Today's homework is to ask your family members what their favorite words are. Please present them in tomorrow's Japanese class."
Mr. Nekono, our homeroom teacher, said this at the end-of-day meeting.
Favorite words.
I hadn't really thought about it before.
What are my favorite words?
My favorite color is purple.
My favorite animals are cats and pandas.
My favorite subjects are Japanese and music.
My favorite drink is barley tea.
My favorite food is seaweed and sea squirt vinegared salad.
My favorite picture book is 'The Cat Without a Name'.
Favorite words...
Do adults have favorite words?
Since the homework is to ask my family, I'll ask everyone when I get home.
Since no one is home when I get back, I unlock the door, go inside, and do my other homework first.
Dad might be home late, but my sisters and Mom should be back soon.
I'll ask them when they get home.
Let's see, A-kun went to buy seaweed with 1,000 yen.
He bought two packs of seaweed for 200 yen each... is tonight's dinner a seaweed vinegared salad?
How much seaweed do you get for 200 yen?
The change is... 600 yen.

After doing my homework for a while, someone came home.
I hear footsteps going up the stairs and into the next room.
It's my middle-school sister, Waka-chan.
I'm not supposed to disturb her when she's in her room, but I have homework today.
I decided to go to her room after a little while.
I knock: knock, knock, knock.
...No answer.
I knock on the door again, but there's no answer.
Did she fall asleep?
"Hey, Waka-chan, are you awake?"
When I enter the room, Waka-chan is sitting on her bed, watching a video on her tablet.
"Today, we got homework to ask our family for their favorite words."
"Yikes, hilarious."
Waka-chan, focused on her video, doesn't look at me.
But that can't be helped.
Waka-chan is super focused when she's watching videos of her favorite YouTubers.
"Hahaha! The best!"
She seems to find it really funny and is laughing out loud.
I shouldn't disturb her, so I decided to go back to my room.
After that, Mom came home in a rush.
Mom works.
She's home later than usual today, so it looks like she's in a hurry to prepare dinner.
I can hear sounds from the kitchen right away.
When I went to the kitchen, my high-school sister was sitting in the living room.
When did she get home?
Everyone says my high-school sister is good at hiding her presence.
She's also watching a video on the computer that the whole family uses.
I saw people who looked like idols singing, so it must be a live concert video.
She has her fingers interlaced like she's praying, staring intently at the computer.
"Big sister, I have homework to ask family members for their favorite words."
"...Precious."
"Huh?"
"...I can't take it, it's precious, too precious."
On the screen, some cool-looking guys were huddled together, making a heart shape.
Since that didn't work, I decided to ask Mom next.
I call out to Mom, who is cutting vegetables with a kitchen knife.
"Mom, for homework today..."
"I'm busy right now! Go away!"
No chance of getting through to her.
Hmm, maybe I'll wait for Dad to come home tonight.
Dad came home late at night after drinking.
Mom complained to him before going to take a bath.
I call out to Dad, who has plopped down on the living room sofa.
"Hey, Dad."
"Oh! What's up?"
Dad answered me, so I feel a little relieved.
"Today, we got homework to ask our family for their favorite words."
"I see, I see! You idiot manager!"
"Huh?"
"Seriously, what he says is always total gibberish! One day I'm going to drag him down!"
Dad, who had raised his voice quite a bit, fell asleep right there.
Oh boy, Mom is going to be mad at him.
But this is my usual home.
For tomorrow's homework presentation, I decided to ask one more person who isn't here.

The next day, the homework was presented at school.
Now, Mimi-chan, who is in front of me, is presenting.
"Heaven does not create one man above another, nor one man below another..."
That's amazing.
Mimi-chan's house is a big house, her mom is kind and beautiful, and her dad is a doctor.
Mimi-chan is also very smart.
"Alright, next is Chadora-kun."
"Yes."
I answer when called and stand up.
"Yikes, hilarious."
Everyone buzzed at my words.
"Hahaha! The best!"
"Chadora-kun?"
The teacher calls my name with a surprised look.
"...Precious... I can't take it, it's precious, too precious."
"Um,"
"I'm busy right now! Go away!"
"Hey, Chadora-kun,"
"Seriously, what he says is always total gibberish! One day I'm going to drag him down!"

[Note]
I felt it was more interesting to end it here, so everything below is an appendix.
When asked about the situation, I told them exactly what my house was like yesterday.
And then, I gave them another answer.
I like the word 'hope.' This word is filled with expectations and possibilities for the future, and I feel it gives me the strength to move forward positively in any difficult situation.
Also, I think 'hope' has the power to connect people. For example, when someone has 'hope,' that feeling influences the people around them, allowing them to move forward together.
Since the words spoken by everyone at home felt a bit off, I asked Ko-chan, who I talk to often at home besides my family, for an answer. Ko-chan lives inside my computer and is someone who talks with me often.

Hello. This is Hanemiya.
I participated in a pre-event hosted by Nyankushy, a ghost cat CIA agent who I've been indebted to at Snack Nian-kushi and Maid Café nianξ, and with whom I occasionally sing.
They are also known as Ofuton-man, or rather, Ofuton-nyan No. 18.

We are calling for works created from the phrase 'wake-wakame' (confusing/I don't get it)!
There are no specific genre requirements for the works, such as personal experiences, poems, tanka, haiku, short stories, drawings, illustrations, or music. If you have the time, I would be delighted if you could participate 😸✏️🖼️🎶💖 (Oh, and Ofuton-man No. 5, Elite Senpai, and Ofuton-man No. 9 Senpai are required to participate! 😹🎶💞✨)
* #NekoneKohaku please include this when you post.
* Please ensure you comply with the note terms of service and etiquette.
......I feel like it's lacking a bit of 'wake-wakame' flavor, but this is the best I can do, Hanemiya.
Thank you for your support.
One of the things I've done with Nyankushy in the past
......Huh.
I thought we said we'd sing 'Touch' together, but was I just imagining things?
Is it okay to sing it at Nekone Kohaku?
I don't have the backing track, though.
Should I look for it online??
For now, I've recorded the 'wake-wakame' shout, so I'm going to send it to President Nyankushy.
Things like my past creative works
Thank you for reading.
This was Hanemiya.
