The Whale in Backlight [Weekly Short Short Note]
There is a prefectural park near my house.
It is a large park where I often see people jogging or walking their dogs, and on weekends, youth baseball teams practice on the grounds.
In the middle of that park, there is a small hill called "Whale Mountain."
When I was little, my parents would take me there, and I would lie down on the hill or roll down it.
Every autumn, a festival is held at the park with many food stalls, and my father would go early to lay out a mat on the slope of the hill to save a spot.
I don't know the origin of the name Whale Mountain. It's not near the sea, so it always seemed strange.
I used to come here often as a child, but after I started working, I hardly ever visited.
When my transfer was decided, I proposed to my girlfriend at that time, only to be soundly rejected. I was walking in despair and realized I had ended up at the park.
Thinking about how we had gone to the recent autumn festival together, I looked at the hill just before sunset.
The mountain, silhouetted against the backlight, looked like a whale swimming through waves of pampas grass.

Hello. This is Hanemiya.
I participated in Tarahakani-san's [Weekly Short Short Note]. The secret theme is
"The Whale in Backlight".
I like images taken in backlight.
I feel like they have a certain atmosphere.
I feel like many of the landscape photos I take myself are also backlit.
Though when I say take, I mean with my smartphone, not a camera.
Here are my previous entries for the Weekly Short Short Note.
Thank you for reading.
This was Hanemiya.
