The Martian Gift for You
"I'm a housekeeper from Mars."
Standing at the entrance was the caretaking robot my parents had sent me.
My parents are members of a Mars exploration team and have been away from Earth for years.
And so, our chaotic days began.
When I asked it to do the laundry, my clothes ended up covered in detergent.
"Can you use water?"
When I asked it to clean, the room was left in a mess from the strong winds.
"There's no sand at all here."
When I asked it to cook, it served space food.
"Just suck it up."
It showed up to my class observation on caterpillar tracks, and everyone laughed.
"I dressed up for the occasion."
At this rate, it's more of a 'meddlesome' robot than a helpful one.
I want to see Mom and Dad. I locked my room and cried in secret.
Suddenly, the housekeeper burst through the door.
"What is it! You useless... gulp."
I swallowed something it had put in my mouth.
"Oh."
It was Mom's pudding.
"I recreated the recipe."
With that, it patted my head just like Dad used to.
Maybe there are different ways to be helpful.
"Don't go into the kitchen now."
I laughed at the housekeeper, who made requests just like a human.
(End)
