As soon as I started reading,

'This is a new frontier for Kanae Minato.' I felt.

The setting is Shirotama Bay.

Sakuya Hamasaki, who grew up in a family that loves the sea,
launches his dream wellness tourism company,
'Kingdom of the Sea'.

However, following the murder of the Queen of Coral,
it emerges that all nine people around him are 'hiding something'.

The story unfolds

through the intersecting perspectives of nine people:
Sakuya,
his younger brother Motoki,
his childhood friend Sho,
Kendo club members Kosei and Nagi,
Ryoji who aims to study abroad,
Soichi from the guesthouse,
the researcher Jun,

and Kento who protects marine life.

Everyone seems kind, yet everyone is suspicious.
That exquisite balance keeps you turning the pages.

To whom did the 'truth' that sank to the bottom of the sea belong?
And who was trying to protect what?

・The weight of the act of 'protecting' stabs at the heart
・The boundary between kindness and sin continues to waver
・The descriptions of the sea are beautiful, yet terrifying
・The final truth was more 'human' than I imagined

As is typical of Kanae Minato's works,

the weakness and strength of the human heart are at the center of the story,
rather than the truth of the incident.

And,
'I have a 'kingdom' inside me that I can't tell anyone about either.'
It quietly leaves behind that realization.

the secrets you show no one, the things you want to protect—
and look at them once more.
