Moscato Wine for You
"Sir, we have a dress code here. Do you not have a jacket?"
That's right. This is a high-end restaurant on the Caribbean Sea. It's only natural that there's a dress code.
Oh no. I didn't bring a jacket.
Due to my inherent lack of preparation, I've embarrassed her.
Yes, my newlywed wife is right next to me.
Looking at her, she seems anxious as she looks at me.
"I'm sorry, I don't have..."
Before I could finish, they handed me a jacket,
"Please, take this."
They smiled and helped me put it on.
Wearing a Western-sized jacket, I look like an elementary school student wearing an adult's suit, but it can't be helped.
My wife next to me also seems relieved to know we can enter the restaurant.
For now, I have no choice but to act with confidence.
This is a popular restaurant where it's hard to get a reservation. We splurged and splurged again to come here for our honeymoon.
I have to enjoy this no matter what.
There was a special event that day, and they said we could drink and compare as much wine as we liked.
I'm a beer person. My wife is a sake person. We are both far removed from wine, but after my blunder with the jacket, there's no turning back. I must sip the wine skillfully.
I pretend to enjoy the aroma and color as naturally as possible.
I even try swirling the wine glass with unaccustomed hands.
I have no idea which wine is good, but surely everything served in this restaurant must be good wine.
After all, it's all delicious.
Look, my wife next to me is happy too.
That's good. Ah, today is a wonderful day.
I'm starting to feel the effects of the alcohol, and I'm in a good mood. Shall I try to communicate a little with the staff?
"I liked this wine. It's very refreshing and easy to drink. Where is this wine from?"
"Sir, this is Moscato."
"Moscato!" (Never heard of it)
"Thank you for telling me. Is it from France?"
"Yes, it is a French Moscato."
"I wonder if I can buy this in Japan, too. I'm so glad I discovered Moscato on this trip. Thank you." (Is that a place name like Bordeaux?)
My wife seemed to like the taste of the Moscato as well, and repeating the word "Moscato" every chance she got so she wouldn't forget it, the two of us left the restaurant and headed back to our room.
"Man, that was delicious. The food was great, but that wine—what was it called again? Oh, right, Moscato. I almost forgot. Moscato was seriously good."
Feeling pleasantly tipsy, I was talkative, relieved that we had managed to leave the restaurant without making any embarrassing scenes, aside from my jacket.
I'll tell my friends about it when I get back to Japan.
I'll say, "Moscato in the Caribbean is the best!"
Come to think of it, where is Moscato, anyway?
It must be a famous wine region, since it was that delicious.
I'll search for Moscato before I forget.
Moscato is another name for Muscat.
Moscato, wait, Muscattttttttt!!!!
The shop clerk who remained smiling and expressionless while watching an Asian person wearing an oversized jacket with sparkling eyes repeatedly say, 'Muscat is delicious. I'm so glad I met Muscat,' was truly a professional.
