Faith has never saved anyone—why is it that only "faith" continues to be misunderstood?

Perhaps there is nothing that has been misunderstood for as long as the word "faith."
Believing in God. Surrendering oneself to something. A crutch for a weak heart.
Every time it is explained that way, a sense of discomfort remains.
Looking back at history, the moments when faith has been discussed are closer to points where sincerity was honed to its limit, rather than "weakness."
A mix-up in order
It is often said.
"Great people had deep faith." "Therefore, faith elevates people."
However, the order might be reversed.
They did not become great people because they had faith; perhaps people who tried to live sincerely simply encountered the word "faith" as a result.
Not deceiving oneself. Facing the unreasonable head-on. Continuing to hold onto unanswerable questions as questions.
When you do that, you inevitably touch upon a structure that cannot be contained by yourself alone.
In the language of the time, that was called "God," "Heaven," "The Way," "Nature," or "Providence."
Faith is not a destination; it is closer to a byproduct.
The irony of the modern age
In the modern era, many people turn to meditation or mindfulness after achieving success.
They have money and status. Yet, a void remains somewhere.
So they seek silence.
The problem is not meditation itself. It is just that the order in which they face things is sometimes misaligned.
The goal may not be to become quiet, but
returning to the point where things went off track might be the priority.
A reversal of perspective
Seeing that, some people think,
"Successful people meditate too,"
"So perhaps it is a means to success."
But in reality, it is closer to a repair device than an accelerator.
If you mistake a tool for clearing blockages as a device for generating water,
your expectations will only grow.
The role faith has played
Faith may have been valued not to coddle people,
but as a standard for maintaining integrity.
Power.
Money.
Groups.
Reputation.
When you are about to be swallowed by these,
measure whether you have gone off trackas a yardstick.
A margin for returning.
Faith may have functioned not as a device for dependency,
but as a "place to return to."
Why it is easily misunderstood
Nowadays, faith is often treated as:
・A means to success
・A tool for healing
・A measure against anxiety
as something to be used.
But originally, rather than something to "use," it is closer to a trace left behind as a result of integrity.
If you trace the form without the integrity, a void remains somewhere.
That is why a sense of discomfort is mass-produced.
No substitution occurs
At the very least,
faith has never taken over one's life for them.
It does not erase pain,
nor does it live in your stead.
What saved you
was the fact that you did not betray yourself.
Faith does not act as a substitute for that.
It simply
remains there as a trace of the integrity
that did not break.
Conclusion
Faith is neither
a tool for success,
nor a technique for blossoming talent.
It is the margin for maintaining integrity.
Without integrity, it is easily distorted,
but with integrity, you can stand without any special equipment.
Things that last a long time
have always been made under the same conditions.
Not betraying yourself.
That alone is what remains until the end.
