First Time Working from Home with a Child|Realizing My Child's Growth...!

Hello, this is Shion.

As I mentioned briefly in my last post, my eldest son is currently taking a break from nursery school due to an injury.
We are monitoring his progress through home care and hospital visits.

First time caring for a child at home since switching to a fully remote job

I managed to switch to a fully remote job earlier this year, and thanks to that, my children have been attending nursery school in good health.
Because of this, I am experiencing the situation of working from home while caring for a child for the first time.

Due to the nature of my job, I sometimes have online meetings with people inside and outside the company, but since I don't have any scheduled right now, he is spending time in the same living room as me.

As I write this, he is playing with his birthday present, an Indominus Rex figure, right next to me (I've become quite knowledgeable about dinosaurs myself... haha).

It's going better than I imagined

That is my honest impression.
I think I can only say this because it's just my 5-year-old eldest son.

He can operate YouTube by himself.
He can develop his own stories with Brio.
He can even go to the bathroom and wash his hands all by himself.

Since it's a mouth injury, I need to assist him when he eats or drinks, but I'm grateful that he plays by himself during my working hours.

If it were one of my younger twins, even though they are close in age, I don't think it would be like this.
Especially when they are feeling unwell, they seek their mother's warmth.
I imagine they would be clinging to me, and I wouldn't be able to get any work done.

Regarding my eldest son, since it's an injury this time, even though he has pain, he doesn't have the fatigue that comes with a fever.
That is exactly why I think he can concentrate on playing by himself.

The sense of relief as he becomes more independent, and the loneliness

We have three boys in our family.
They are always competing for my attention.
The only time each of them can have me all to themselves is on days when they are off from nursery school due to illness or other reasons.

The living room, which is always chaotic with three boys, feels almost unsettlingly quiet when it's just one-on-one.
The time spent slowly facing just one child is precious to me as well.

Even with this injury, I'm so glad I switched to a full-remote job because I can care for my child at home while working!

On the other hand, the dynamic where a day off from daycare meant a day off from work for mom, allowing for undivided attention, no longer applies.

This was a concern of mine when I changed jobs, but it seems to be no problem as long as it's just my eldest son.
...He's grown up so much.

And so, my eldest son's home recovery continues.
I hope you get better soon (or at least the pain goes away) and can go back to daycare soon.
