The following is Shino's mindset as a judge this time.
My daily goal and sustenance for the past year and a half has been "to compose at least five haiku every day."
The nature and scenery I see are almost all seeds for my creative work, and I organize myself for the day through the creation of haiku.
Since I base my work on "haiku with seasonal words and a fixed structure," to put it very simply, haiku is "a creation of seventeen sounds including a seasonal word."
It is also a repeated challenge of how to incorporate myself at that moment into those seventeen sounds.
What I, as someone like this, strongly feel is that short stories that have a theme and are written within a limited number of characters are very similar to composing haiku.
The theme is the seasonal word, the character limit is the restriction of seventeen sounds, and the necessity for proper introduction, development, turn, and conclusion also corresponds to the structure of the upper five, middle seven, and lower five.
So, as a repetition of my mindset so far, I would like to approach the judging this time by emphasizing the following four points.
1. Is the topic "finger" clearly highlighted as the theme?
2. Is the writing and expression easy to understand?
3. Is the word choice careful and the Japanese beautiful?
4. Has the work been thoroughly revised?
Just as with my daily haiku composition, I intend to judge with the utmost care and sincerity, so I look forward to receiving your earnest entries from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for your support of the "Spring Pirika Grand Prix 2023."
