     .....

Now, as for me, Shino Uzuki, since February of this year (2024), I have narrowed my creative activities down to 'Haiku' only.

My last eight months can be summarized as follows.

*Humbly, yet sincerely, I look at the changing seasons, nature, living things, and people's lives, and I compose haiku by internalizing the emotions I gain from them.

*I read and carefully appreciate the haiku of predecessors and contemporary poets, and I learn directly from active haiku poets by attending haiku gatherings and joining haiku circles.

*I am facing the 'seventeen syllables' seriously every day.

The points that I, as someone like this, will emphasize in the judging of this 'Autumn Pirika Grand Prix' remain the same as the past Pirika Grand Prix, consisting of the following four points.

1. Does the topic 'Paper' stand out clearly as the theme?

2. Is the writing and expression easy to understand?

3. Is the word choice careful and the Japanese beautiful?

4. Has it been thoroughly proofread?

However, these four points are merely a matter of 'technique'.
The most important thing is,

how carefully and lovingly the author has woven their work.

I would like to strongly add that this is the case.

For me, the 'Pirika Grand Prix' is a special place.

Although my current involvement with 'prose' is limited to writing appreciation pieces for haiku,I intend to brace myself and face each work in the 800-1200 character world with full sincerity.

Those participating for the first time,
Those with past participation experience,
Those who participate every time,
Those who have already won a prize,
And those who have experience as guest judges,

I hope everyone will take on this challenge with all your heart!
I, too, will approach the judging of the works with all my heart, without any bias.

Pirika Grand Prix Notebook (for meetings & judging)
This is the second one starting from this time.
I loved this type, but it seems it's already out of print.
(I'm glad I stocked up on three of them)
30 works recorded per page.
After reading each work twice, I will narrow them down and read them a third and fourth time.
This time, too, it will be a super-analog judging process.

Sincerely, Shino Uzuki
