Do you know about the Fresh Start Effect? My goals for 2024 are...
Happy New Year. This is Uiken.
Things I became able to do in 2023 include:
・Strength training
・Saving money
・Mountain climbing
・Decluttering
・Using different planners and notebooks for different purposes
・note
and so on.
As for the tangible effects, I felt:
・My pants size went down
・I felt less irritated and anxious
・I had more time available
・My ability to articulate thoughts improved
・I became less prone to fatigue
・The frequency of my migraines decreased
It was a year where I felt changes in both my appearance and my thinking.
These were all the result of achieving the goals I set at the beginning of 2023 one by one.
I'm sorry. That's a lie.
I did not achieve the goals I set at the beginning of 2023.
I was only able to make it a year of change by achieving goals I set at certain timings, one by one.
What is the Fresh Start Effect that changes your life?
According to a certain paper , it is known that starting new things at milestones such as the New Year, birthdays, long vacations, or the beginning of a week or month increases the probability of forming a habit.
You can also get the Fresh Start Effect on any day you consider a milestone, such as when changing jobs, moving, or when your relationships change.
I was also able to make new things I started at the beginning of the fiscal year (April), my birthday, and the beginning of the month into habits.
What are your goals for 2024?
I will not set any goals for this year.
The reason is that I cannot think of anything I want to achieve "within the year."
Forcing myself to set goals based on immediate desires will only lead to failure, and I don't see the necessity of setting a deadline of within the year.
If I set abstract goals like "make this a year of X," I won't even know if I achieved them or not.
I will set goals whenever I think of them and take action toward achieving them. I think I will go with that policy.
I'm not the type who succeeds by pushing myself, so I will proceed without relying on grit.
What are your goals?
I won't be setting any big goals, but what about you?
I think it's fine as long as you can have a fun year using a method that suits you.
I look forward to your continued support this year.
