Essential things you must do when you want to "improve"
Hello, this is Wataro.
If you are new here, please take a look at the site map👏
You can get an overview of who I am.
The highest human desire is "growth".
Humans want to be useful to someone.
That is why we study and read books,
aiming to improve our skills.
However, unfortunately, there is a cruel truth about skill improvement.
That is, there is no such thing as "improving just by watching."
⭕️ "Understanding just by watching" is an illusion
There is a saying, "learn by watching."
What do you think of this saying?
✅ Refer to skilled people
✅ Read books
✅ Watch videos
At this stage, you are in a state of "knowing".
However, you are still far from being able to "do" it.
When everyone imagines skill improvement,
they usually imagine the state of being able to "do" it, right?
Just watching is not enough to acquire a skill.
In other words, you have only learned how to hold a baseball bat.
Just because you know how to hold a bat,
it doesn't mean you can hit the ball.
✅ Watch the ball
✅ Swing
✅ Make contact with the ball
There is a whole process involved.
You won't understand this unless you try it.
Learning by watching means,
you have "only" learned how to hold the bat,
It is like the illusion that you have become capable of doing everything.
⭕️ The immense benefits gained by taking action
The benefits you gain by trying things out are immeasurable.
1️⃣ You understand the true difficulty
Let's go back to the baseball example.
By learning how to hold a bat,
you learn for the first time how difficult batting is.
This is because you learn the "atmosphere" of things like "tension" and "impatience."
The first step is to just try it.
It is the same as how you cannot acquire skills just by being online.
If you like, please take a look at the article below.
👇 I am writing about how to acquire skills that you cannot get online.
2️⃣ You stop feeling nervous
It is what is known as "getting used to it."
If you have experience with sports, you probably already know this.
You practice, don't you?
Things you couldn't do before,
Over and over again...
Gradually you get used to them,
And you become able to do them as if it were second nature.
Getting used to something means creating a state where you don't feel nervous.
Because you stop feeling nervous, you can perform well in matches.
⭕️ The relationship between getting used to something and skill improvement
When you get used to something, you stop feeling nervous.
And that evolves into your new "normal."
We mustcontinue to raise our own "normal."
This is because if you set your goals too high right from the start, you will end up discouraged.
Even if you say, "Alright, I'm going to run a full marathon starting now!"
all I see is a recipe for disaster.
By setting your standards for what is normal at
✅ 3km...
✅ 5km...
✅ 10km...
and raising them little by little,
you can keep challenging yourself to reach higher and higher levels.
⭕️ The reason why people say you should use "people" and "environment" for growth
If you want to grow, you are told to"change the people you are with" and "change your environment."
This is because "people" and "environment"
act as powerful catalysts.
Even when we know we "have to do it,"
we are geniuses at procrastinating.
However, if "people" or the "environment" are involved
Forced to do it.
Forced to get used to it.
This is the true nature of skill improvement.
The importance of creating opportunities is similar to a game.
