Nice to meet you. This is Walt's Language Academy.
Nice to meet you.
We are the management team of Walt's Language Academy.
We operate an online therapy matching platform run by speech-language pathologists.
In this article, we would like to share "who is running this service" and "what kind of vision we have for it."
■ What is Walt's Language Academy?
Walt's Language Academy is an online therapy matching platform run by speech-language pathologists.
Our parent organization is "Walt," a child development support and after-school day service provider in Oita Prefecture. We launched this online service while accumulating practical experience in therapy on-site.
Behind this lies a single reality.
In Japan, there is an overwhelming shortage of speech-language pathologists specializing in pediatrics. Even though there are many children across the country who need support, there are no specialists nearby. Appointments are booked months in advance. That situation continues even now.
That is why we decided to deliver support online.
"Because there are no speech-language pathologists nearby," "because it is difficult to provide transportation," "because I was looking for support I could do at home." Many people choose Walt for these reasons, and now we even have users living overseas.
A doctor's medical certificate is not required.
You can feel free to consult with us from the stage where you are "just a little concerned."
■ The parents we have met
While operating this service, these are the voices we often hear.
"I feel like their speech is delayed, but I don't know where to go for advice."
"I was told to wait and see, but what exactly should I be watching for..."
"There are no specialists nearby I can consult with."
"I didn't think it was serious enough to go to a hospital, so I've been worrying about it all by myself."
Every one of these words conveys how seriously, yet somewhat quietly, they are struggling.
It takes a bit of courage just to say it out loud.
Everyone has been carrying those worries all by themselves.
■ What we value
When we talk to the speech-language pathologists who work in support settings, there is a theme that always comes up.
"What is important for a lesson is to know the child's daily life."
It is not just about whether the child can speak during the lesson.
It is about how they spend their time at home, what they like, what they struggle with, and when they laugh.
Learning these things together is our style.
And, that 'being able to speak' is not the only goal.
When language develops, children become able to express their feelings.
The experience of being understood accumulates, gradually turning into confidence.
'I spoke,' 'I was understood,' 'I tried it and I could do it.'
We believe that these small accumulations change a child's everyday life.
And one more thing.
Parents don't have to worry alone, either.
The people who see the child most closely are the father and mother.
We want to share those anxieties and confusions together. That is what we think.
■ What Walt wants to deliver
Increasing the moments when you can think, 'My child did it again.'
Instead of wondering, 'Was this the right way to talk to them?', being able to think, 'This is fine.'
Not just the child, but the whole family being able to spend time with a little more smiles.
What we want to deliver is not just online lessons, but the accumulation of those daily moments.
For that reason, we want to deliver the support your child needs 'right now'.
■ What we will share on this note
We want to make this a place you can look back on when you are concerned about language development.
The content we will share is like this.
・Basic knowledge about language development
・Information that can give you peace of mind, such as stuttering and articulation disorders
・Tips on how to interact at home
・Things speech-language-hearing therapists have seen and felt in the field
・Things our management team has noticed in our daily parenting
We will write even specialized content in as simple language as possible.
So that when you read it, you don't think 'that was difficult,' but rather 'I see, let's try it.'
■ Finally
We want you to find a place where you can consult about language worries with peace of mind.
And we want you to receive the necessary support without missing the timing.
That is what we think.
"I'm not sure if it's worth consulting about yet"
"Is it just my child?"
"I'll wait and see a little longer"
You think these things, yet you've been worried about it for a long time.
That state of mind is the most exhausting.
I would be happy if this place could be somewhere you feel like saying, "I'll read a little bit."
I look forward to working with you.
