How to Cure a Hangover Headache and Nausea | A Checklist of Things to Do First Thing in the Morning
Hello. This is -VOLT-.
"I'm hungover, my body feels like lead. Is there any way to fix this?"
——I get it.
I've also experienced "my past self from yesterday making my present self suffer today" many times.
It's a bad habit of mine as a science-minded person to rely on procedures rather than willpower.
So today, I'm leaving you with a recovery protocol to "return to being human in the shortest time possible."
It's designed for when you can barely move, so you can start without even getting out of your chair.
First 15 minutes of the morning: Recovery protocol
1) First, 300ml of water. Room temperature. If you can, add electrolytes (oral rehydration solution or sparkling water + a pinch of salt + a little honey).
2) Just open the curtains. It doesn't have to be direct sunlight. Light resets your internal clock and makes the nausea a little better.
3) If you can make it to the bathroom, go, and on your way back, take a 1-minute lukewarm shower. Don't make it too hot. Just on your neck is fine.
4) 90 seconds of radio calisthenics (upper body only version). Arm circles and deep breathing. You don't need to sweat; the goal is to get your circulation going.
5) Half a bowl of white rice + miso soup (or a banana if you don't have those). Wait until noon for oily foods and coffee.
6) Set your smartphone to grayscale. Intense information can upset your stomach.
7) Finally, 4-4-8 breathing x 3 times. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 8 seconds. Exhaling helps shift you into a parasympathetic state.
How to move during the morning: Lower the bar for output
That takes 15 minutes.
Even if a full recovery isn't possible, you'll be able to reach the "starting line for work."
This is how I get through it: I finish only light tasks in the morning (sorting emails, organizing files) and then shift into higher gear in the afternoon.
The key is to "only do what you can."
Trying to perform at "100% as usual" on a hangover day, failing, and then feeling self-loathing is the biggest waste of all.
Nighttime preventative measures: Reducing tomorrow's damage
And now, for the night.
Address the root cause.
・From now on, water with every drink.
・For the finish, sparkling water.
・As soon as you get home, set out breakfast for the next morning before going to bed (a rice ball is enough).
Just these three things will visibly reduce the damage the next day.
I settled on this after reviewing my lifestyle due to familial hypercholesterolemia.
Don't push yourself, but do "systematize" things.
This is what works best.
Summary for today
"I want to get better quickly" is an honest wish.
But actually, "a routine that doesn't try too hard to get better quickly" is the fastest way.
I'll manage to get through today, and tomorrow morning at 6:00, I'll do radio calisthenics and brew some coffee again.
That's enough; it'll be a good day.
Thank you for reading.

I will continue calmly next time as well.
