The most surprising things about my first visit to a golf course
I went to a golf course for the first time recently, practiced at the driving range, had lunch, and played 9 holes, and
here are the top 5 things that surprised me as someone who had never been to a golf course in their life.😊
No. 1: There are toothbrushes and towels in the clubhouse
I sort of knew that golf courses had baths, but
I was surprised that they provided both large and small towels,
and even disposable toothbrushes.
It seems like toothbrushes are being phased out for environmental reasons, but since golf is a sport played in groups, I thought it was amazing that they provide these so you can groom yourself, avoid making others uncomfortable, and be ready for the afternoon round.✨
No. 2: The service is incredible
The porters at the entrance carry your golf bag, and the caddies bring you your clubs and wipe your balls—it's just total pampering. Of course, self-play days and self-service rounds seem to be the norm now, but even though it costs more in labor, I thought the environment provided to help you focus on your game, even for a beginner, was amazing. It's definitely an environment you don't find in marathons...
No. 3: There is a machine to clean your shoes
When you return from the course, there is a machine that blows air to clean your golf shoes. Apparently, it's called an air gun. I guess it's for manners to keep dirt and grass out of the building before going to the restaurant, or maybe just for easier cleaning.
No. 4: There are multiple restrooms along the course
This is great news for women who have had children and suffer from bladder leakage or have to go more often.😆 I don't think you need them in the summer, but they are important in the winter.🤩 It seems many people drink alcohol during lunch before playing, which is another reason why there are so many restrooms.
No. 5: The carts move on their own
I was surprised by the golf carts that move on their own when you press a button.😆 They are called electromagnetic induction carts, and they use sensors to detect magnetic force in the ground. There are also self-driving types that you operate yourself, but I haven't been to a course with those yet.
That concludes my impressions from my first visit to a golf course! If you're used to golf, you might think, 'That's it?' but...😁 Also, I thought the lockers were huge. They are in a different league than gym or public bath lockers, and they are wider and larger overall than even the lockers at nice medical checkup facilities.
It looks something like this. The aisles are even wider.

As an average person who has never played golf, I'm starting to understand why it costs money. The facilities are designed with the assumption that the people coming here have a higher standard of living than those who go to regular gyms or public baths, so the services and amenities are quite luxurious.😄
