Online Exhibition: Four Apples and Four of Me

Welcome to a modest moment of enjoying a slight fever and paintings.

I would like to begin my third online exhibition.

First of all, thank you.

For me, as someone who paints, having someone look at my work holds great significance.

While I will be selling paintings here, I hope this becomes more than just a sales venue or a place for my own expression alone; I hope it becomes a place where you can feel free to interpret things in your own way.

I pour my life into my paintings. It is fine if you just take a quick peek. I would be happy if you could spare even a little bit of your time.

Painting things that can be found anywhere.

I painted apples. I only painted four.

Every day, I placed the same apple on the table. While changing the angle and orientation just a little, I tried painting that same apple four times.

Just an apple. A red, round fruit that can be found anywhere.
It is nothing special. However, when I stared at it, the light reflecting on the apple's surface and the faint bleeding of colors strangely remained in my heart.
Painting ordinary things is, for me, surely a time to face myself.

In this online exhibition, I am displaying paintings with that apple as the motif.
A blue apple, a green apple, a red apple, and a purple apple.
It is truly mysterious that even though they are the same apples, I can see various patterns and colors. Please, take a look and find the various hues for yourself.

Solo Exhibition "Boring Things" Vol. 3

It became an apple where various colors like blue, yellow-green, pink, yellow, orange, and red are lined up like paint squeezed out onto a palette.
The orientation is upside down. Because of that, since the stem part typical of an apple is not visible, there is an element that makes the viewer wonder what kind of fruit it is, even if it is a fruit, which I find interesting.

It was a major discovery to see a dark pink color in the shadows of the apple. I don't think this apple would have been complete without this color.

"Morning"
Approx. 39.0 x 26.0 cm / Soft pastel, watercolor paper (rough)
Price: 6,000 yen (tax included)

I saw an apple for the first time with a faint, vivid purple in its shadows. Even within that vibrancy, the gentle curves of the apple are present, making this one of my favorite pieces.

Bathed in morning light, its yellow skin gradually changes in atmosphere, revealing the peak of its roundness as it reflects the light. This fruit, which displays its individuality even within the darkness that emerges, is a piece that truly made me realize I never get tired of drawing it.

"Light"
Approx. 39.0 x 26.0 cm / Soft pastel, watercolor paper (rough)
Price: 6,000 yen (tax included)

This apple happened to have a yellow glow on the lower half of one side. I wondered what kind of work it would become if I placed it in the shadow area, opposite to the light. That is why I intentionally placed it there.

As a result, that yellow light was visible even within the shadow. It is mysterious. After all, the light is reflected within the shadow.

"Tree"
Approx. 39.0 x 26.0 cm / Soft pastel, watercolor paper (rough)
Price: 6,000 yen (tax included) Sold out

It looks red, but I actually used a lot of brown to draw it. I only used red in a very small part.

I realized that apples absorb so much color from the tree. Although it is placed here alone, it was mysterious to see how it inherits the colors of the parent body it was originally connected to, just as we inherit blood from our parents, and still carries them with it even now.

Even though they are the same apples, they might look like completely different fruits.
I drew them all at the same time of day. Since I kept the lighting and weather conditions as consistent as possible, they shouldn't have changed that much.
Yet, I myself found it strange why the colors and shadows were so different.

What I thought about after continuing to draw apples and lemons for these two months.
It is that my inner self is reflected in the fruit.

It makes me realize that even if we are looking at the same scenery or the same object, it is never the same thing. Especially if we are different people.

After all, even if it is just me, this many different apples appear. If people, ways of life, and backgrounds are different, of course it is certain that we will see different things.

A world that changes its appearance depending on your mood or the emotions deep within your heart, even when you are all alone.
When you are happy, when you are sad, when you are quiet, when you are restless.
The outside world, which should remain unchanged, actually begins to look a little different, little by little, depending on the self within.

I think the apples I painted were surely like that, too.
I intended to paint the apples on the outside, but before I knew it, I was painting my own emotions.

The way I chose the colors, the way I applied the shadows, the force of the pastel.
I think those casual choices were, without me realizing it, reflecting the state of my heart.

These four apples are also a record of a different version of me appearing through a single fruit.
And perhaps, they reflect the fluctuations of the heart that everyone has, the small daily discomforts, or the light-like hope.

This concludes my online solo exhibition.
Did you find any paintings you liked?

All the paintings here are one-of-a-kind. There are no copies or merchandise for sale. If you look at a painting and think, 'I might like this one,' please consider welcoming it into your home.
It would be a tremendous encouragement to me as well.

From now on

And so, I think it is time to move on to the next step. I will, of course, continue to paint fruit, but I think I will be trying out other new motifs.
By focusing intently on a single motif, I feel that something has come to a natural conclusion within me.

Even so, my journey in painting continues.
This is because the "themes I want to paint" within me have not changed.

What I have always wanted to paint is "something" that cannot be seen with the eyes—emotions or presences that are hard to put into words, things that are definitely there but have no form.
In the case of these apples, the version of me reflected inside the appleis that thing.

I believe that sentiment will remain within me, unchanged, from here on out.

However, I think I will gradually change the "subjects" I use to paint that "something." Stagnation is the greatest enemy of a painter. It has become a rule of mine to switch things up after doing them three times.

From fruit quietly placed on a desk, to the outside world—.
I am currently drawn to the landscapes of Nagano Prefecture. The spring when buds burst forth and flowers bloom after enduring a lonely winter. The season when the greenery deepens after the flowers have fallen.
I want to try to find myself within those landscapes.

And, if I were to be able to see something other than myself, what would it be?
That is what I want to know.

I, who have projected my heart onto the small world of apples, think it would be fun if I could now dissolve myself into the expanding landscape.
I have a feeling that I will be able to see something new again.

Bidding a quiet farewell for now to the time I have spent painting apples,
I intend to move on to my next painting.

Thank you for enjoying the paintings of apples and lemons with me between February and March.
Please look forward to the next exhibition as well. I am looking forward to it, too.

If you are interested, please take a look at the first and second exhibitions as well.
You might see different apples and make new discoveries.
