Let's Try Writing Haiku (Entrusting to Objects Edition) ②
This is being serialized irregularly during the Everyone's Haiku Tournament.
For absolute beginners and beginners,
please read this only if you want to get a little better at haiku.※This does not hinder free creation.
※I support the words of Tota Kaneko-sensei,'As long as it is 5-7-5, it is fine.'
At first, I think it is good to try composing as this article suggests.
Let's entrust it to an object.
What is that? I understand.
Simply put,
it meansdon't state the whole answer. Let's entrust emotions to an object and a seasonal word.”that is.
So,I will practice it myself.
Let's look around ourselves.Looking at my bookshelf, I saw a book on haiku grammar.
'I hate classical grammar'
You can hear the inner voice of a depressed person, right? If you combine this with a seasonal word, it becomes a haiku.
'Summer vacation, I hate classical grammar'
That is good.
I could end the article here, but
for those who want to get better at haiku,
and also, knowing this technique of expressing with object + seasonal wordis useful when 'looking for your favorite haiku' in the Everyone's Haiku Tournament,
I am writing this article as someone who likes haiku a little, a self-proclaimed intermediate, and in a position to share techniques.'Summer vacation, I hate classical grammar'
With this,as a self-proclaimed haiku intermediate, I think, 'This is an expression often disliked in the haiku world.'
The reason is, 'because there is no room for the reader to imagine.'
Let's think from the opposite side. That is the position of the selector (the person who chooses).
When reading a book by a haiku selector (a book by Gyo Takaha),
I saw a mention of reading 1,000 haiku a day, 30,000 a month as a selector.(I failed to note the book title and page number)
I am sure that among the 1,000 haiku seen in a day,
many haiku like 'I hate XX' appear.
That is why the 'J-POP-like haiku' I used to write a lot back then
were not chosen much by haiku masters back then.
※But, if I were to be reborn and start haiku again,
I think I would write J-POP-like haiku at first.'
Because I love it!! '
Therefore,
I am not denying that haiku of yours.I understand it well myself.
One more thing,
this analogy is high difficulty for me, butlet's assume 'you are a man or woman as popular as a celebrity'.
It's imagination! There are probably many people who tell you 'I like you'.
There are many people who tell you they like you,and you probably get tired of hearing it.
(Ah, that's truly a dream-like story (lol))
If there is one person among them who properly and specifically praises a part of your actions or appearance, wouldn't that person be more impressive!?
It is like that.
So, entrust it to an object. (And, describe it specifically)
So, one technique that I think is good to know for haiku is to
entrust it to an object.
For example, it turned out like this.
I hate classical grammar
→
Only the grammar book is pristine. There are few creases or sticky notes.
Grammar book, few creases(Is 'grammar book' too forced!?)
Prioritizing describing the words a bit more accurately,
Grammar book with few creases
You can see something around 12 characters, right?
Few creases → the reader will likely infer that you haven't touched it much.As for that, let's "trust the reader."
Next is choosing a seasonal word (kigo).
Choosing a seasonal word is all about "feeling"!
Please choose a seasonal word from the article for people writing haiku for the first time.
For those writing haiku for the first time. | Utsuspi | note
+ Seasonal word: Summer clouds
Let's adopt that one.Grammar book with few creases, summer clouds
In terms of fashion,
can you put into words every combination of clothes you wear?
In haiku, I still often choose seasonal words just by feeling.
Also, in the case of haiku, if the author can explain it,sometimes the seasonal word choice is one that the reader can also explain.
Rainy season clouds, a book without creases
(The classics have gone somewhere...Let's have the reader imagine what kind of book it is.
I chose a gloomy seasonal word.)
The classics book is in the back of the bookshelf
(The character count is short at 12 characters. When that happens, look for a 2-character seasonal word)
Grammar book in the back of the bookshelf, summer
(Oh, I quite like this!)
The emotion of "hate",
having few creases, having no creases from being opened,
placing it in the back of the bookshelf,I tried entrusting it to an object.
Please try entrusting it to an object and a seasonal word and compose one♪
Once you can do this, haiku becomes fun, and
when choosing haiku for everyone's haiku contest,I think you will increasingly feel how this person has matched the seasonal word in this way!
How should you go about practicing?
Please give it a try. You too can compose a haiku right away♪
I have thought about a concrete way to write them.
If the object is "4 characters" long,
① Make the first 4 characters that object.
② Choose 1 character for a particle.③ Think of 7 characters to dress it up.
④ Choose a seasonal word that you think suits it.
If the object is "5 characters" long,
① Make the last 5 characters that object.
② Think of 7 characters that lead into it.③ Choose a seasonal word for the first 5 characters.
And with that, your haiku is complete!
If the thing you want to entrust is 4 to 5 characters long,
I think you can complete a haiku in a few minutes to a few tens of minutes by applying it to this formula! Why not try challenging yourself to the Everyone's Haiku Tournament with a
haiku that entrusts your feelings to an object
!
I am also accepting questions from self-proclaimed super beginners to beginners!
I have even received comments from people saying they tried writing haiku based on my article♪
I, along with all the staff of the Everyone's Haiku Tournament, am cheering for those taking their first step!
The people at the Everyone's Haiku Tournament are all kind, so
why not try challenging yourself to write a haiku?
And, since we are trying to challenge ourselves to write haiku in various ways, the next article has turned out to be "Oogiri" (comedy prompt)!
Continue here!
There aren't many people as easy to understand and kind as this, or so they say (lol)
The cooking analogy was really easy to understand, wasn't it (lol)Self-recommendation!!
Let's make our days wonderful!
With love.
