A Trial House to Gauge My Mood (And How I Ended Up Doing Tons of DIY)
I wrote about how I bought a used detached house and intended to move out in five years, but the primary motivation for buying this house was actually to "gauge my own mood."
While the location of this house is the most inconvenient of all the places I've lived, including my parents' home,
・Do I really want to live near a station close to the city center?
Or
・Would I be fine in a more rural area where a car is necessary?
or not, with so much time forced to be spent at home, the idea of gauging my own mood played a big part.
In reality, it's not that I can't stand it, and I do think that a more convenient location would be better, but
what I've noticed even more is my own tolerance for used housing.
Setting aside the basics like replacing the broken doorbell or installing curtain rods that weren't there to begin with,
(though I am a bit curious about how the previous resident lived without curtains.)
the only things I've hired professionals for so far are the bathroom and toilet, but

I started painting the closets and storage spaces,

I replaced all the lighting,and

I filled in the chipped, dented corners of the stairs with putty, created new edges, and started painting,

As a result, I've ended up replacing or coating (painting) everything that is visible (lol).
By the way, in my house, the real estate agent who owned it previously had already replaced the wallpaper. (Though I think the cuts aren't very clean, it's within an acceptable range.)
I'm incredibly bothered by dirt, scratches, and uneven colors, so I've been painting like a fool, but aside from the plumbing,I've realized that I'm not as bothered by the structural age or the floor plan as I thought I would be.
I did replace the doors that were colliding, though.
Also, the size is just right for one person. I actually thought a four-and-a-half-mat bedroom might be too small, but it's actually good because the air conditioning works quickly (lol).
I'll probably go for another used property where the building value is zero next time, but for the next one, I plan to have all the plumbing replaced, all the wallpaper changed, and have them coat the areas I'm concerned about before I move in. As for what I'm concerned about, that's just my own mood, but I've come to believe that you can't really know your own mood until you actually test it out.
Instead of trying to get your forever home right on the first try, I think it might be a good idea to try living in an affordable property first to see what actually bothers you before making a final decision.
That is what...
I was thinking about how I might end up painting the entire first-floor hallway after all, while also feeling relieved after removing the door stopper—which had become obsolete since I changed the doors and which I thought looked way too dirty every time I saw it—and filling in the nail holes.

All that remains is to renovate the kitchen, which I left alone because of the hassle of washing the brushes used for painting, and the room that is currently filled with unopened boxes and flattened cardboard, which I plan to turn into a studio with the help of professionals.
