U | Impressions of Part 1 of 's t a r s' by Kimiiro Bunko | A story about protecting life, imperfections and all
Having finished reading Part 1 of 'stars', what remained most strongly in my heart was the question of what it truly means to 'protect life'.
I feel that this story deeply depicts not only the preciousness of life, but also how we view that life, how we handle weakness and imperfection, and who protects that life and how, all within a cold and tense world.
Despite the harsh worldview, what remained after reading was human warmth. Trying to protect a small life. Trusting and supporting one another. Not casting others aside, but accepting them for who they are. I feel the author's sentiments bleeding through in the way the story properly turns its gaze toward the wounded, the clumsy, and the wavering, striving to protect the essence of their lives.
Life can only move toward the future if it is protected while remaining true to itself and while connected to someone else. I believe that sentiment is what prevents this story from ending as just a cold piece of science fiction, making it gentle, strong, and profound instead.
It was a very beautiful, painful, and gentle first part. I want to carefully follow the continuation to see what kind of future this entrusted life will head toward in Part 2.
