[In the Mood for Love 25th Anniversary Special Edition] Release set for Friday, May 1st
That encounter was not just once.
Directed by Wong Kar-wai, starring Tony Leung & Maggie Cheung
Transcending 25 years since its first theatrical release in Japan,
it returns along with a legendary, previously unreleased short film shot back then—
In the Mood for Love (2000) became a masterpiece for director Wong Kar-wai, with Tony Leung winning the Best Actor award at the 53rd Cannes Film Festival. It was released in theaters in Japan the following year, in 2001, and became a huge hit. Now, in this year that marks the 25th anniversary of its release on March 31st, In the Mood for Love and the legendary short film In the Mood for Love 2001, which was only screened at a masterclass at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, will be shown together as the [In the Mood for Love 25th Anniversary Special Edition]. In the Mood for Love was originally conceived under the title "THREE STORIES ABOUT FOOD," which was planned to be a trilogy depicting three different eras. Within that, the work titled In the Mood for Love 2001 was positioned as the dessert. These two works, featuring Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, eventually saw In the Mood for Love become a single feature film, while In the Mood for Love 2001 was left to sleep like canned or frozen food. Now, we encounter each of them again across time, and through this first encounter, they reveal a connection.
The poster visual released this time features Maggie Cheung from both In the Mood for Love and In the Mood for Love 2001, contrasting her vermilion coat with a modern blue striped ensemble. As the tagline written in the center, "Attracted to each other, again and again," suggests, in addition to In the Mood for Love, which continues to move audiences not only from the real-time generation but also younger generations every time it is screened in theaters, by encountering In the Mood for Love 2001, made with the same cast, across time, we can once again savor the story of two people who are drawn to each other like fate.

The trailer, also released today, begins with the image of Maggie Cheung from In the Mood for Love turning around. It unfolds to the singing voice of Nat King Cole's "Quizás, Quizás, Quizás," and just when you think it's over, footage from In the Mood for Love 2001 is shown for a brief moment.
Three scene photos each from In the Mood for Love and In the Mood for Love 2001 have been released. They capture the two people, played by Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, drawn to each other in settings from the 1960s and the modern day.

[In the Mood for Love 25th Anniversary Special Edition] will be released sequentially nationwide starting Friday, May 1st, at Cinemart Shinjuku, Bunkamura Le Cinema Shibuya Miyashita, Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro, and others.
