[Eldest Daughter] Rethinking Life Through Long-Distance Runningð¡
Good eveningð It's umi.
Autumn is a season filled with various events like sports festivals, sweet potato digging, and school festivalsâšïž
When my children were small, I used to look forward to making sweets with a huge amount of sweet potatoesð

Now, as for the events at the high school my eldest daughter attends.
The school festival is over, and next is the marathon in November. The distance is, believe it or not, 10km! That's way too long.âLong-distance running is a battle with yourselfâis something often said, but I don't want to fight for that longð
When I was a student, I was relatively fast at short distances, but I hated long-distance running because it was just too painful. So, if it were me, I wouldn't have chosen this high school if I knew there was a long-distance marathon.
My eldest daughter also hates long-distance running. That's why I told her when she was deciding which school to apply to,âA 10km marathon is pretty tough, you know?âI said.
âIt's only one day, I'm sure I'll manage somehowðïžâAt that time, my eldest daughter had no idea she would end up regretting that lighthearted thinking to death.

Starting this month, all PE classes have become 4km runs as practice for the marathonððš
The marathon in junior high was 2km. She was in the tennis club, but since there was no long-distance ð running, this was her first time experiencing a 4km run in her life.
Apparently, they have to run 4 laps outside the school grounds.
âFor the first and second laps, I was still thinking things like, 'Ugh, another lap?' or 'This is so long and tedious.' It was just normal complaining about being tired.â
Well, that's true. I was the same way during marathon events, Mom.
âBut you know, from about the third lap, I started thinking, 'Why am I being made to do this?'â
Oh my. So you rethought your life while running? It really is a battle with yourself!
âWhat am I being made to do? Why? Ah, I guess it's because I didn't study.â
The high schools my eldest daughter wanted to go to were the one she currently attends, School A, and School B, which has a deviation score about 5 points higher. By the way, School B also has a marathon, but apparently, it's not that tough.

ð¡Note: It's not that she compromised to get into School A; once it became clear that School B was impossible, she decided,âI'm only going to School A!âShe said the uniform is cute and it's the only place she could imagine living
âTHE JKâ lifeð So, she is enjoying her high school life every dayâšïž

âWhy didn't I study properly during the entrance exams? If I had studied back then, I wouldn't have to be put through this.â
That's why I told you to study, didn't I?
âI want to curse my past self for taking the 10km run lightly. I want to punch herð Seriously, my thinking was way too naive!â
From here, my eldest daughter's self-reflection goes even deeper.
âIt's because I've always had naive thoughts throughout my life. Even with studying. Ever since I was in elementary school, I've always been easy on myself and haven't studied. That's why I'm being made to do something this painful now.â
Her self-reflection continues even further.
âGetting what's coming to youis exactly what this means. That's right, God is watching properly. If you live a life that's too easy, painful things will come. Life is well-designed. Ah,I wish I had lived more properlyðâ

To think that much during a long-distance run! Even about life!? I mean, she's only lived for 15 years (since she has a late birthday), so thinking she should have lived more properly is just... ð The teachers probably have no idea she's thinking this deeply.
"It's so painful I could die ð You wouldn't understand, Mom, you've never run it. It's the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life ð± I thought I was going to throw up."
Apparently, she was crying while running the fourth lap ðŠ And it wasn't just my eldest daughter; it seems quite a few kids who aren't good at long-distance running were crying too ð±
That's because walking is strictly forbidden, and teachers stand in blind spots where students might try to walk to keep watch. If you don't finish within the time limit, you have to do remedial running after school, which is pretty tough.
She has PE again today, so she's probably running right now.
However, she doesn't think that deeply anymore, and it seems she's able to finish without crying.
And I wonder if this introspection had an effect? Surprisingly, she scored above average on her biology midterm! This is a subject she had to take remedial classes for in the first semester.
For my eldest daughter, who hates studying and doesn't get great grades, I'd say this is a result of her working really hard ðïž
The marathon training continues! And the main event, a 10km run, awaits in the unknown world ahead ðŠ Good luck! Eldest daughter!
