Nostalgic Height Difference✨️
Hello⛅️ It's umi.
Stop trying to charm babies and kids!
This is something a friend said to me when I was in high school.

Actually, I have a strange habit...
When I make eye contact with a small child, I just want to make them smile😂
And since they almost always do smile back, I can't seem to stop←
I don't make funny faces or anything, of course! I don't want the adults around me to label me as a 'suspicious person'💦

Anyway, why do small children smile back at me?
The hint was in my eldest daughter, who was very shy as an elementary school student.
When my eldest daughter went shopping by herself back then,
she unfortunately encountered a situation where she had to ask a store clerk for help!
When she got home, she told me about it.
“I looked for a woman.”
Yeah, yeah, you're not good with men, are you💦
“But even among women, I looked for someonewho looked like they liked kids.”
What!? Can you really tell that?
“Of course I can, it's totally different👍️ I can't put it into words, but it's just different.”
Apparently, she can tell instinctively. And she says she can properly distinguish it from the creepy kind of 'liking' kids. Maybe I'm just radiating a 'I love kids' aura?
Hmm? Does that mean the babies and children who smiled back at me
could tell that I love kids? Is my aura leaking out?
The thing is, I loved children so much that my dream for the future was to be a kindergarten teacher. Although I gave up on that after learning that the child population was declining, my love for children hasn't changed. So, I think I'm probably wearing an aura that only children can see😁 (
#WhatAreYouTalkingAbout)

This happened when I stopped by the supermarket on my way home from work yesterday.
As I was about to get on the downward escalator from the 4th floor, I saw a parent and child coming down from the 5th floor, and I made eye contact with a boy who looked like he was in kindergarten.
When I got on the escalator in front of the parent and child, they were talking about something behind me. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but it seemed like they were talking about me.
Right after that, the boy came down to the step next to me.
Then he turned to his mother and said, “I came down to the step next to her😊”
When I made eye contact with the boy, he gave me a big smile. I smiled back at him too😊
When we reached the 3rd floor, he got on the escalator to match me and ended up on the same step again.
Then, we made eye contact again and both smiled at each other😊
I could tell he kept glancing at me, so every time I looked back at him, he would smile again.
He was just so, so cute💕
When we reached the 2nd floor, the boy had gotten on the step in front of me. Then he came up to my step and smiled again😊
I heard his mother laugh when she saw that.
When I turned around, she said, “I'm sorry💦,” and I replied, “Oh, no, it's fine😊.” I didn't say it out loud, but my inner voice was shouting, “Don't apologize, it made me happy!”😆
While we were standing side-by-side on the escalator, it was such a happy moment. I felt so nostalgic for this height difference that I had forgotten about.
“I used to hold hands at this height difference~💕”
“I remember being so moved when they could get on and off the escalator by themselves~💕”
The way the little boy looked up at me was so nostalgic too😍
Another thing I remembered was my eldest son when he was little, who was a real grandma-killer.
It all started when he would smile at boys before he did at me.
Whether at the supermarket or the hospital, whenever he spotted a grandma, he would toddle over and give her a huge, beaming smile😂
Back then, I used to apologize to the grandmas, saying, 'I'm so sorry💦'.
But now that I'm on the receiving end like I was yesterday,
I feel like, 'Don't apologize—if anything, I want to thank you!✨️'😊
So, I have nothing but gratitude for the boy from yesterday😊

The next time I get to experience that height difference will probably be when I have grandchildren of my own.
”Grandchildren are as precious as the apple of one's eye✨️”
I think the reason people say that is not just because of their existence, but because they let us re-experience the time we spent raising our own children.
Thank you for letting me re-experience that before I have my own grandchildren, little boy from yesterday😊
