It's good to learn things you didn't knowð¡Even if it's about ðð©
Good eveningð It's umi.
Judging by the title, I'm sure you're wondering #WhatAreYouTalkingAbout, but I'd be happy if you'd stick with með

At dinner time, the umi family watches My Hero Academia.
We've finally reached the end of season 4âšïž
And after we finish watching, the usual scene is turning off the TV and everyone doing what they like.
However, this past Monday, when we switched back to commercial broadcasting, "Crazy Journey" was on. And the caption read, "Find the phantom giant glass squid!".

A glass squid?ð is it?ðŠ is it? What is it?
My eldest son and I were very curious. Plus, they said they were going to film the deep sea with a drone! We are two people with a deep passion for the deep sea. We couldn't not watch itð
So, we made a "prediction that a glass squid = an octopus head with 10 legs" and started watching, even though it was already in progressðºïž

Right after we started watching, my favorite whale appearedð And a sperm whale at thatâšïž It was a feast for the eyesð

I didn't know you could see them in Hokkaido too~.
I've been secretly planning to go whale watching before I die, so I'll add Hokkaido to my list of potential spotsâšïž
Still, why is the deep sea so fascinating?Maybe it's because it's an unknown world. The fact that it's a bit like outer space is definitely one of the reasons I love it, tooð¡ You could watch these two types of footage forever without ever getting bored, right?ð

Something like thisâšïž

We were talking about how it felt like "we're about to time slipïœïœð".You have an image of time slipping like this, don't you?
The program was packed with precious footage, like a cute flapjack octopus appearing, or creatures that made you think, "Wait, is this even a living thing?"ðâšïž
As for whether they succeeded in catching the glass squid... if you're curious, you can still watch it on TVer, so please check it out there.
And, as for what a glass squid actually is, which everyone is (presumably lol) curious about...
It's actually a squid, but it has eight legs. This is truly a case of the name describing the body! Though you could say it's a pretty simple naming conventionð

But still, if it's a squid, shouldn't the name start with 'squid' instead of 'octopus'~ð§ Since 'octopus' came first, I predicted it was an octopus with 10 legs, but I was wrongð

By the way, glass squids have 10 legs when they are born, and the two feeding tentacles disappear during the larval stage. Do they just pop off? Or do they degenerate and disappear?
Either way, I feel like it would be very inconvenient to lose two of themð¢
Conversation between parent and child after the program endedâšïžð©"What's up with the mouths of octopuses and squids being between their legs lol. It's a bit gross lol"
ðš"True. Actually, I wonder who was the first person to draw that mouth (the tube-like thing) in illustrations"As we were talking about various things, a question suddenly popped into my head.
ð©"If the mouth is between the legs, then where does the ð© come out?"
What on earth are you talking about, sea?

Could it be on the side of their mouth? No, no, that can't be it, right? lol
But there's nothing that looks like that in plain sight, is there? Inside their head, maybe?
Since the two of us don't know much about octopuses, we can only imagine.
I wonder if I've ever seen a squid up close. When I opened the drawers of my memory, I found that I had cleaned a squid once.
Why only once, you ask? Because their eyes are scary! ðŠ
I'm totally fine with the eyes of a swimming squid. In fact, I even like the eyes of a nautilus! ð
It's just that feeling when you're cleaning them, or something like that. I'm terrified that they might pop out! ð±
Ever since then, no matter how cheap they are, I can't bring myself to buy a whole squid. ð

Let's get back to the topic. ð
Perhaps thinking that we shouldn't spend too much time on such talk, my eldest son quickly looked it up and told me. ð¡
ðš 'It comes out of the funnel (it's on the back of the head, near the base of the legs). So that's it, the mouth-like thing in the illustrations comes from that.'
Ah, right, there was a funnel. I've seen it in videos of octopuses swimming! âšïž It's the part that puffs up and shrinks, which they use when they swim!
So that means that mouth often seen in illustrations isn't strictly a mouth, but an anus? lol That's surreal. ð
No sooner had the question been solved than my eldest son said... ðŠ
ðš 'Apparently, squid ink also comes out of the same funnel as the poop. Wait... does that mean squid ink pasta is... dirty? ð±'

Do you think restaurants bring jars to collect the ink from the squid, making them spit it out and catching it? That would be way too difficult! ð If that were the case, we'd need a squid ink specialist, someone whose job is to always make the squid angry. lol
If it were a pasta that was incredibly difficult to make, it wouldn't be this popular! ð
In the mind of my eldest son, who doesn't know about the ink sac, he must have thought they collected the ink they spat out. ð

When I told him, 'It's okay because the ink sac is inside their body! ðïž', he was relieved, but... come to think of it, you don't even eat squid ink pasta! ð

I love communicating with people, so
I'd be happy if you left a comment! âšïž
It would also be very encouraging if you could take actions like clicking 'Like'! ð
